THORPE-HEARN'S GRADE 5/6 CLASS Kindergarten: On Wednesday, December 11, the Kindergarten class went to the Huron County Museum in Goderich. They really enjoyed ringing the bell on the black train engine and weighing themselves in pounds on the penny scale! Grade 1: The grade one class really enjoyed the Huron County Museum. They took home bears which they each made and have had no trouble finding good spots dents are making lots of Christmas stuff! They even made bouncy San­ tas to hang on their Christmas tree! They are getting very excited as it for them all! They are practising for the Christmas concert on December 18. They are going to be stars! Grade 2: Mrs. Dodd's grade two class has started Christmas centres and has been making card holders. They went to the Goderich Muse­ um on Friday, December 13 and thought it was fun. The grade twos have decorated their classroom and have been working very hard on their part of the Christmas concert. Grade 2: Mrs. Hessels' grade two class has been learning how to do measurement in Math class. They are also learning how to keep them­ selves healthy. At the Huron Coun­ ty Museum, they made climbing bears and bookmarks that say “150 Years of County Government 1841-1991”. During class, the stu- is getting close to the Christmas concert. Grade 3: Miss Mather's grade three class is practising for the Christmas play called “Kittens” that they are performing with Mrs. Dodd's grade two class. They are rotating around eight Christmas centres in their classroom. They are also reading Christmas stories, doing Christmas math, spelling and art! The class really enjoyed their trip to the Huron County Historic Museum in Goderich on Friday, December 13. Grade 4; Mr. Fisher's grade four class is pleased to announce that December 12, Madame Rae, their Environmental Studies teacher took them on a field trip to the Huron County Museum in Goderich. They enjoyed themselves and were very surprised to learn that the people who made the climbing bears, had to make 3,000 wooden bears for the all the people who would attend the workshops! Thank you very much Madame Rae. The grade fours have been practising very hard on their part for the Christmas concert. We are pleased to report that their Christmas recorder music is sound­ ing better and better all the time. Grade 5: Mr. Kerr's grade five class enjoyed their visit to the Museum. Matthew Beck, Peter Irwin and Jason McBumey liked making the climbing bears the best, while Ryan Cook favoured the apple cider. They hope the Christ­ mas program goes on for years and years to come. Grade 5/6: On Thursday, Decem­ ber 12, our class enjoyed the “Christmas Celebration” workshop offered by the Huron County Museum. Mrs. Karen McCallum and Mrs. Barb Pletch both joined us as parent volunteers, and we would especially like to thank them for their help. We are studying France this week and look forward to studying England next week. Our “Secret Santa” game is in full swing and we are enjoying the little notes and treats our Santas leave us. Some of us have made paper sculpture angels, reindeer, santas, and nutcrackers to decorate our classroom with. Next week, we will be working on a special craft pro­ ject which will end in a gift that we can give somebody for Christmas. Grade 7: The grade seven class is WMS meets The W.M.S. met on Monday, December 9 at the home of Mrs. Freda Scott. Mrs. Alice Nicholson opened with a call to worship. The hymn, “O Come All Ye Faithful” was sung. Mrs. Nicholson took the worship service from the Glad Tidings with Mrs. Margaret Siertsema and Mrs. Scott reading scriptures. The annu­ al meeting will be held January 20, 1992 at 10 a.m. The collection was gathered and dedicated. Roll call was answered by a Christmas poem or story. Mrs. Siertsema read the minutes of the last meeting, Mrs. Ivy Cloakey gave the financial report and 33 sick and shut-in visits were recorded. Mrs. Siertsema read a story “Fit­ ting Jesus into Christmas”. Mrs. Hazel Dalrymple read a prayer by Peter Marshall and Mrs. Nicholson read a poem “The Baby in a Manger Stall”. Mrs. Siertsema gave the closing prayer and lunch was served by the hostess. excited about Christmas. They are celebrating Christmas by having a Christmas dinner where each of them will make food to contribute to the entire class. They have made candle holders out of pine cones, and are very busy publishing their Christmas books. The Industrial Arts group of grade seven students is going to be touring F. E. Madill Secondary School. Grade 8: The grade eights have been having extra art time this week and using it to brighten up their classroom with chalkboard pictures, hall decorations and win­ dow paintings all in the Christmas theme. They have been rehearsing the carols that they will be singing at the Christmas concert next week. Studgnis’ Council; The Students' Council will be hosting Christmas games for grade 1 through 4 on Thursday, December 19 and be sponsoring a Christmas dance for grade 5 through 8 on Friday, December 20. The entire school body is looking forward to these festive events. SNOWMOBILES CAN’T SWIM... All who were able to attend had a fantastic time; how­ ever, the flu bug managed to lake its toll here as well.
