Blyth People Debbie Ritchie and Brian Van­ derburgh were the top team at the Friday night mixed dart night at Blyth legion. Thelma Johnston and Kevin Ritchie were in second place. Donna Govier had the high score for the women and Bill Nethery, the high score for the men. Helen Cardiff won the 50/50 draw. Ruth Shiell and Millar Richmond had the high scores at the weekly euchre at Blyth Memorial Hall, Monday, Nov. 9. Margaret Nesbitt and Liona McLean had the low scores. Ruby Pattison and Alden Crich had the most lone hands while Vi Hoggart won the special prize. There will be no cards during Christmas week. Winner of the Blyth Legion Aux­ iliary's Afghan Draw was Zelmai Burley of Goderich. Winner of the cushions was Mrs. Peter Kelly and winner of the vanity sei is Sheila Hallahan. Home for Christmas holidays, or arriving soon, are many Blyth and area university and college stu­ dents. Among the goods taken to the Salvation Army in Wingham and the Huron County Christmas Bureau were a large number of mit­ tens which were gathered at the Mitten Tree Service at Melville Church. Rev. Carolyn McAvoy said some people knit all year to provide mittens for the service. Handknit items were also part of the gifts left for the Blyth donation. "That took a lol more time than just writing out a cheque," said Doug Scrimgeour of Radford Fuels. He termed the response of the Blyth community to the food drive outstanding, saying many people really dug deep to give. Given the current difficult economic climate he said everyone must be willing to help out those less fortunate. "Let's hope we don't become the people in need," he said.
