Crusaders lose 2 games in weekend action Monday, Dec. 2 saw the Brussels Crusaders Senior hockey team on the road to Tavistock for a game with the Royals. Brussels opened the scoring just under halfway through the period when Kevin McArter and Rick Boon set up Tim Fritz for the goal. Tavistock answered back with a goal, four minutes later to tie the game up. The Crusaders regained the lead nine seconds later when Boon and Brian Campbell drew assists on a J.C. Hewitt goal. They made it a two-goal lead 13 seconds after that when Dean Wheeler scored unassisted. The Royals came storming back as they scored four goals in the last three minutes of the period to take a 5-3 lead after one period of play. Tavistock opened the scoring in the second to take a three-goal lead. The period was half over when Brussels cut the difference by one when Wheeler scored his second game with Hewitt and Ron Pryce drawings assists on the play. It became a one goal game after Wheeler scored his third of the night, with the assists going to Brian Ten Pas and Tim Fritz. The teams were scoreless for most of the third period before Matthew Cameron drew Belgrave close with an unassisted goal with 5:06 left but Belgrave couldn't get the equalizer. Michael Bromley and Peter Craig each notched a hat-trick in both goals and assists. Jerrod Button was the third Blyth player to record the hat- trick and also added two assists. Ryan Chamney, Christopher How- son, Tim Cowan and Tim Lyons each scored one goal and two assists, with a huge celebration fol­ lowing Lyons' first goal of the sea­ son. Brian McNichol recorded one goal while Benjie Hakkers and Henry Bos each picked up two assists. Although goaltender Chris Lee wasn't tested often, he preserved the shutoyt with a fine breakaway save with 30 seconds left in the game. It should be a different story this week as the competition toughens with home games against Brussels and Stephen Township. Drayton scored the next two goals of the period before Wheeler scored his third of the game with Pryce and Brett Gamiss getting the assists. Drayton added one more goal of their own to make the final to present the Lions Club's annual donation of $500 and Lions badges for each uniform. More information is being sought regarding the 1993 Canadian Jamboree in Alberta, and each section will decide on whether and how to participate in the Blyth Village Christmas Pageant Dec. 21. If there is enough time Blyth Group Committee is planning to take a picture of some local cubs and scouts, and their leaders in front of the new village sign, and submit it to the Leader Magazine. score 8-3 in their favour. Tom Bailey, from district, dis­ cussed recruitment procedures with the group committee. In any volun­ teer organization it is always diffi­ cult to find enough leaders. A committee has been designated to recruit more people for next year. Again this year the boys will be selling popcorn to raise money for camping equipment, and the idea of a bottle drive early in the new year was discussed.
