Sunday, Dec. 1 the team played against the Deckhands at Goderich and came one goal short in a 4-3 loss. Belgrave opened the scoring in the second period when Craig Marks scored from Justin Black and Matthew Snow. Goderich came back to lie the score two minutes later but 57 seconds after that, Craig Marks put Belgrave back on top with a goal from Curtis Knight. But Goderich scored three straight goals in the third period to take command of the game. Brussels found itself in a tight squeeze all afternoon as, short-handed because of players writing exams and set down for disciplinary reasons, the squad lost to Walkerton 7-6. CANADA? Bulls split weekend games The Brussels Bulls may have lost their hold on first place in the Western Junior C League over the weekend. The Bulls split a pair of games on the weekend, while the second place Hanover Barons easily rolled past Goderich 14-1 in their only game. The Bulls lead the league with 28 points on 12 wins, two losses and four ties. The Barons have 12 wins, a loss and a tie for 25 points, but Hanover has four games in hand. On Friday night, the bulls had no trouble with Fergus rolling to a 9-3 win. Corey McKee paced the Bulls with a goal and three assists. Greg McNevan had two goals, Sam Kulafofski, Todd Norman, Jamie Hislop, Dan Burton, Scott Vader and Jeff Potvin added singles. For Potvin, it was his first goal of the season. Coach Scott Pettigrew said, “We were missing seven players so we had to play smart and wait for our breaks. It was nice to come away with two points.” Sunday was when the Bulls ran into trouble. The third place Walk erton Blackhawks came to town and beat the shorthanded Bulls 8-7. Brussels started the game with only 13 skates missing several players for disciplinary reasons. A handful of others were studying for exams and Winger Jamie Hislop was out with an injury. The Blackhawks built a 4-1 lead after one, and led 6-3 after two. A brawl in the second left Brussels with just eight skaters to finish the game, but that's when the players left on the bench turned it up a notch. They outscored Walkerton 4-2 in the third and came very close to tieing the score. Corey McKee again led the Bulls with a hat-trick, Todd Norman, Jason McNichol, Brian Zabel and Greg McNevan had singles. It was Zabel's first of the year. “You never like to lose but we demand a certain level of dedica tion and if players are not going to give it they will sit in the stands”, said Coach Pettigrew. I was really proud of the guys in the third. We never quit and with a little luck could have won the game.” The Bulls are in Mount Forest Friday and host the Orangeville Crushers on Sunday at 2:00. Sun day's game should be an excellent contest. The Crushers have been to the All-Ontario finals the last two years and currently lead the Mid Ontario Junior “C” standings. NOTES: Jason Baier, Jeff Potvin, ' Jamie Scott and Brian Zabel are all suspended for two games resulting from fighting in Sunday's game against Walkerton. SEEKING ALTERNATIVES?
