Before the prizes were given out, Mrs. Ruby Hanna was honoured by the Belgrave Euchre Club in recog­ nition of over 40 years as treasurer of the club. The group showed its Christmas poinsettia. The regular monthly meeting of Belgrave Evening Unit of Knox United Church, Belgrave, was held Tuesday evening, December 3 at the home of Mrs. Laura Johnston with 18 members present Members answered the roll call by donating a pair of mitts for Chil­ dren’s Aid. Leader, Mrs. Wilma Higgins, welcomed everyone and thanked Laura for offering her home. Wilma read a Christmas poem. Mrs. Barbara Anderson, Mrs. Lorna Cook and Mrs. Muriel Coultes presented a meaningful Christmas program. They retold the Christmas story using scripture from Luke and Matthew and appropriate hymns. At Christmas, Jesus shines a light in the darkness to rekindle our hopes for the future. Mrs. Laura Johnston read a Christ­ mas meditation “What does Christ­ mas mean to you?” We make our own Christmas by bringing joy to others, she said. Homes for 1992 meetings were chosen. Members were reminded that the shut-in boxes will be packed Friday, December 13 at the- home of Mrs. Laura Johnston. The meeting closed with benediction. Grace was sung and lunch was served. Other Hospital News: • Welcome to new staff members, Dr. Carolin Shepherd, Carrie Szyjka, Lab Technician, Colleen Fischer, Business Office and Betty Duwyn, Physiotherapist. • Catherine Staples Is retiring from the Business Office after 22 years of work. • Two Grade 8 students from Seaforth Public School have spent three hours shadowing the Nursing Staff and the Nursing Office Personnel to get an appreciation for their work day. Leadership has been provided by Seaforth District High School Co-op Students. • Eighteen first year student nurses from Conestoga Nursing Program are completing their clinical experience on a day a week for five weeks. Activation Group: On November 26 the Huron Strings entertained the group with their ever popular musical numbers. We eagerly anticipate their return during the Christmas season. In the Fall, under the direction of Eleanor Horst and Jane Vincent both hospital volunteers, the Activation Group made three topiary trees. These trees are very lovely and have been a real conversation piece around the hospital the past month. The winners of them are Pat Koehler, Carrie Szyjka and Lynn Coombs.
