People Notice to Brussels Residents Mr. and Mrs. Murray Procter and family have moved to Rancho Santa Margarita, California. Murray is the son of the late Wilbert and Dorothy Procter. Nancy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pearson. Murray has accepted a position with the American Division of Avco Financial Systems Ltd. Family attended from near and far, the birthday of Eleanor Hem­ ingway, including, Ray and his family from Vancouver, Don and his family from Manitoba and Lau­ rel and family from Wawa, Ont. Former students of Cranbrook's two-room school, Edith Hadyn, Gonie; Merle Bowes, Ethel; Marie McTaggart, Brussels and Emyline Steiss, Cranbrook enjoyed an after­ noon of reminiscing about the good old school days. Ruth Axtmann served the after­ noon tea for her mother. Legion euchre team qualifies for finals BY SANDRA JOSLING On Saturday, November 23 a euchre team from the Brussels Legion travelled to Lucknow to participate in the Zone C-l finals. Representing the Branch were Gor­ don Nichol, Norm Dobson, Eric Ross, and Bob Richardson. This team qualified for the District finals to be held in Goderich Branch on March 28. Tuesday night blind draw mixed darts were held with the following results: Lawrence Machan and Dave Adams, first; Barb Elliott, Adam Smith, and Bill Nethery, sec­ ond. The ladies' high shooters were Deb Cann and Kathy Cochrane (100) and Bill Nethery and Dave Adams (140) for the men. Darts are held every Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. All are welcome. Euchre was held on Wednesday, November T1. High lady was June JackLn and high man Bill Nethery. Low lady was Vema Tunney and low man, Frank Cardiff. Most lone hands for the ladies was Helen Dobson aNd for the men, Jim MacLean. Most zeros was Shirley Hopper and Mel Jacklin. The next euchre will be held December 11 at 7:45 p.m. The next executive meeting will be December 9 at 8 p.m. The next general meeting will be December 16 at 8 p.m. All members are urged to attend. Your input is appreciated. The Brussels Legion will be hav­ ing a New Year's Eve Potluck dance. Tickets are $5.00 per person and can be purchased at Murray's Barber Shop or at the Legion after 4 p.m. If you require more informa­ tion call 887-6562. NOTICE TO BRUSSELS P.U.C. Toastmasters tops FINAL INSTALLMENT OF TAXES DUE DECEMBER 4TH 1991 s Donna White Tax Collector The Maitland Motivators Toast­ master Club of Brussels was recog­ nized as a top club at Toastmasters Fall District Conference held recently in Kitchener. The club was presented with two awards by Immediate Past District Governor, Harold Usher. The local public speaking club was recog­ nized as a Select Distinguished Club for acquiring a minimum of 6000 points in their 1990-91 year. Points are awarded for members who achieve their Competent Toastmaster (CTM) status as well as the club's accomplishments in the areas of growth and leadership. Friendship Club On Wednesday, November 20 the club met in the Legion lounge with a very poor attendance due partly to the Institute meeting that coincided the same day. The President, Gerald Exel, opened the meeting with words of welcome and offered the prayer. A tribute of one minute's silence was held in memory of the late J. C. McNeil, a long-time and ardent member of the Royal Canadian Legion. To show appreciation, a motion was made by Mary Lowe and sec­ onded by Marsha Logan to make a donation to the Canadian Legion for the use of their lounge. On motion by Verna Tunney and sec­ onded by Martha Logan it was decided to give a donation towards the purchase of candy for the Santa Claus parade. A gift exchange will be held for that meeting, also no admission charge. Euchre and Uno followed with the following winners: euchre - high lady, Annie Thynne; low lady, Isobcl Alcock; high man, Pat Rowland; low man, Mary Lowe; Uno - Vera Tunney. The second award, the Governors Select Club of the year, was pre­ sented for being the club with the most points in their membership category in District 60 which con­ sists of most of Ontario. Local Toastmasters attending the presentations were Sandra Mayber­ ry, Mervin and Tillie Lichty, Frank Procter and Allan Dettweiler, Presi­ dent who accepted the awards on the clubs behalf. NOTICE TO BRUSSELS RESIDENTS ALL NIGHT STREET parking Due to municipal snow removal operations, notice is hereby given that the parking of cars on Village streets during the winter months (December 1 - April 1) Is strictly prohibited. All vehicles must be removed from village streets and from roadways of the municipality between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Violators will be prosecuted or will be required to bear the cost of having their vehicle towed away. The owner of any such parked vehicle will be liable for any damage to the said vehicle or to snow plow equipment. Donna M. White Clerk-Treasurer Rebekahs The regular meeting of Morn­ ingstar Rebekah Lodge No. 315, Brussels, took place on Tuesday, Nov. 26 with Noble Grand Leola Hood presiding. The date for the Lodge Christmas party is set for Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the lodge rooms. A donation was made to the Chil­ dren's Aid Society of Huron Coun­ ty Christmas Bureau. Once again our Lodge will par­ ticipate in the Pilgrimage for Youth program for which a speaker is chosen at a speak-off in March to attend the U.N. Assembly in New York. The Lodge has been invited to Perth Star Lodge, Listowel on December 12. The next meeting is December
