New Guides are (left to right) Colleen VanCamp, Heidi Meier, Marie Cook, Lauren Walker and Becky Logan. Fourteen tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave, Novem­ ber 20. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Marie Merkley; second high lady, Mrs. Gordon Louttit; low lady, Mrs. Margaret Ritchie; lone hands, lady, Mrs. Lloyd Appleby; lucky card lady, Mrs. Ross Taylor; high man, Wilford Caslick; second high man, Oscar Schefter; low man, Leslie Vincent; lone hands, man, Dennis Leddy; lucky card, man, Mrs. Iona McLean (playing as a man). Poetry reading opens WI meeting The November meeting of the Belgrave W.I. was held Tuesday evening with Audrey Fenton in charge, opening with a poem “Planting a Tree”. Mrs. Mary Coultes was pianist for the opening exercises following which the convenor Mrs. Wilma Higgins read a poem, “Farm Mem- ories”, then introduced the speaker Lucy Clarke, a counsellor for the Survival Through Friendship House of Huron County in Goderich. She spoke on the kinds of abuse suffered by women-emotional, physical and intimidation. The House is funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services with 20 per cent coming from the community. The women who come for shelter are taught basic life skills, hygiene, housekeeping, par­ enting and discipline of their chil­ dren. Discussion centred around the Knox holds baptism service Miss Lilia Taylor of Braemar Retirement Centre, Wingham was the guest of honour at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clare Van Camp when her nieces and nephews gath­ ered to celebrate her 85th birthday. Those in attendance were Mrs. Norma Davidson, Glencoe; Mrs. Donna Johnston and her daughters Marilyn Swartz, Clinton and Deb­ bie Virkutis, London; Mrs. Kay Harris,1 Teeswater; George Glidden, Owen Sound; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Van Camp, RR 4, Brussels; Jack Van Camp and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jardin, Belgrave. Claren Alexander, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Yuill, was baptized by Rev. Peter D. Tucker during the morning service at Knox United Church, Belgrave, Sunday, November 17. Following the baptism relatives who gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Yuill and Carfierra were: Mr. and Mrs. Ross Yuill and family, Ayton; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Nivins and Ralph, Nile; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Nivins and David, RR 7, Lucknow and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Yuill, Belgrave. Dr. Ray and Mrs. Nicholson and baby Victoria of Elmira visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Gamer Nicholson. Alicia Makas of London spent the weekend with her grandmother Mrs. Mabel Wheeler. many questions coming from the members. The roll call was answered by giving an item to be taken to the home. Wilma thanked Lucy and gave her a gift of appreciation. In the business meeting a dona­ tion was given to the Christmas Bureau. The W.I. will cater to the Morris Township employees, the Hussey Fellowship Group and the Edgar Family dinner. A card was signed for Dorothy Logan who is in the hospital. The meeting closed with the Queen and Grace and lunch was served by Gladys Van Camp and Jean Patti­ son.
