The Bulls were lagging behind by one goal at the beginning of the third period, but came on strong, scoring three goals, to win four to two. Bulls' winning streak at 5 games Blyth Bantams start season with very busy stretch The Brussels Bulls winning streak has now hit five games after sweeping a pair of weekend match es. The first place Bulls squared off with the third place Blackhawks on Friday in Walkerton. The Bulls jumped out in front just nine sec onds into the game when defence man Joe Walker jumped up into the rush and deflected home a Corey McKee pass. Brussels led at the intermission by two thanks to Jason Baier's first goal of the season. The big defenceman surprised the Hawks goalie with a quick slapshot from just outside the blueline. But the Blackhawks hung tough outscoring the Bulls 3-2 in the sec ond and were down by just one heading into the third. Corey McKee and Greg McNevan had the Bulls tallies. Corey McKee iced the game in the third with a nice goal. He completed a pretty three-way passing play by batting a Ted Sills pass out of the air past Troy Sharpe. The finale score 5-3. Coach Scott Pettigrew says “Goalie Trevor Fortune did a great job. We were shorthanded a lot and did not give up a goal on the powerplay. Winger Greg McNevan also had another strong game. He is finding the net more and plus his Radford Overloads down Rockers On Wednesday night, the Rad ford Overload Oldtimer hockey club hosted the Wingham Rockers. After a tight-checking first peri od, the Overloads took control and went on io an 8-3 victory. Wayne McDougall led the way for Rad fords scoring four goals, Bryan Black added two and singles went to Robbie Lawrie and Barney Stewart. Ron Ritchie and Harry Wilson again provided solid goal tending for the winners. Brussels got goals from four differ ent players to beat the Harvesters 4- 2. The first period ended in a one- all tie, Jason Baier with the unas sisted goal for Brussels. The Bulls came out after the intermission and went to sleep offensively. They managed just three shots in the sec ond period. In the third, Grand Val ley grabbed a 2-1 lead but, quick goals from Sam Kulafofski, Corey McKee and Greg McNevan gave Brussels the win. The Bulls return to Grand Valley Saturday night for a return matchup with the Harvesters. The next home game for Brussels is Sunday night at 7:30 against the Wingham Iron men who have been playing much better hockey in the last couple of weeks. From the Bullspen: Steve Fritz and Joe Walker both did not play Sunday due to suspensions. The Bulls released Brett Long of Lis- towel and Steve Barber of Stratford and signed Dan Burton of Shake speare who played last season for the Tavistock Braves of the West ern Junior D League. In 25 games he had 24 goals and 21 assists. Congratulations to all the candidates who ran for Blyth council and reeve for a good campaign and to the citizens who came out and voted in such great numbers. Blyth opened their season in Huron Park on October 26 as they came from behind all game to eventually tie Stephen Township 3- 3. Michael Bromley and Peter Craig scored unassisted short-hand ed goals before Jerrod Button, with assists to Tim Lyons and Michael de Jong, notched a power play goal late in the third as the game ended in a 3-3 deadlock. Blyth then travelled to Clinton on October 29 where they rode the shut-out goaltending of Chris Lee to an 8-0 rout of the Clinton ‘B’ team. Michael Bromley, Brian McNichol and Michael de Jong each notched two goals with single markers going to Tim Cowan and Wilfred Datema. Game assists were credited to Michael Bromley with three, two each to Brian McNichol, Ryan Chamney, Peter Craig and Jonathan Collins. Blyth hosted Zurich on Novem ber 4 as they scored four unan swered third period goals on their way to a 6-3 triumph. Michael Bromley led the attack with two goals and two assists. Brian Mc Nichol, on the power play, Ryan Chamney, Benjie Hakkers and Jer rod Button rounded out the scoring in the third period. Christopher Howson, with two, Wilfred Datema, Peter Craig and Ryan Chamney counted game assists. November 6 saw Blyth travel to Brussels where they let an early 3-1 lead disappear, losing 5-4. Ryan Chamney and Brian McNichol both notched one goal and two assists. Michael Bromley and Jerrod But ton each notched a goal, with Bromley also adding an assist. Other assists were recorded by Henry Bos and Michael de Jong. After the Consolation Champion ship in the Zurich Tournament, a hectic two weeks of hockey ended on November 11 as Blyth shaded Wingham 6-5 in an exhibition Continued on page 15
