Bruce Hahn Ernest Snell retained his seat as Reeve of East Wawanosh, splitting the votes with his two opponents, former councillor, Jim Hunter and Neil Vincent. Snell led the race early winning 30 votes at the first advanced poll and 17 at the second over Mr. Vin- cent's 15 and seven and Mr. Hunter's six and four. At poll one Mr. Snell was again in the lead with 163 votes, while Mr. Hunter was second with 56 and Mr. Vin­ cent third with 43. Mr. Vincent was the popular vote at the poll two with 103 votes to Mr. Snell's 96 and Mr. Hunter's 83. Mr. Snell finished with 306 votes, Mr. Vincent with 168 and Mr. Hunter in third spot with 149. In the race for the one seat on council Dianna Robinson defeated John Currie 353 to 245. Ms Robin­ son led in both advanced polls with 35 and 13 over Mr. Currie's 15 and 11. At poll one Ms Robinson got 169 votes, while Mr. Currie had 81. At poll two, however, Mr. Currie led by two points with 138 to Ms Robinson's 136. Though, Vicki Culbert defeated three opponents for position of Huron County Board of Education trustee for East Wawanosh, West Wawanosh, and Ashfield Town­ ships, John Gaunt led in all the East Wawanosh polls but one. At the advanced poll Mr. Gaunt had 27 votes, Ms Culbert 13, Beth Fulton six and Katherine McNee one. At the second advance poll Ms continued on page 11 Souch loses bid for deputy-reeve in Morris Twp. Former Morris Township coun­ cillor Deloris Souch, lost a spot on council after being defeated in her bid for deputy-reeve, by incumbent Clem McLellan. Ms Souch had a total of 242 votes, while Mr. McLellan finished with 351. At the advance polls each candidate had 11 votes. At poll one Mr. McLellan led Ms Souch 93 to 48. and again at poll two with 76 to her 42. Ms Souch led at poll three with 90 votes over Mr. McLellan's 85, while at poll four Mr. McLellan was again the favourite with 87 of the 137 votes. On council, the remaining two incumbents are returned along with newcomer John Duskocy. Bert Elliott topped the polls with 416 votes, followed by Wayne Riley with 258. Mr. Duskocy was a close third with 251 votes, just beating Roy Aitcheson who had 250 votes. Karl MacNaughton obtained 235 votes, while Allan Dettweiler had 155. At the advance polls Mr. Elliott led with 18 votes, followed by Mr. Duskocy with 13 vojes then Mr. Riley and Mr. Dettweiler tied for eight, Mr. MacNaughton with six and Mr. Aitcheson with five. Mr. Elliott was the favourite at all the polls, getting 94 at poll one, 80 at poll two, 133 at poll three and 91 at poll four. Mr. Riley had 68, 47, 74 and 61, while Mr. Duskocy had 61, 59, 66 and 52. Mr. Aitcheson had 56, 45, 79 and 65, Mr. MacNaughton had 65, 48, 68 and 48 and Mr. Dettweiler had 20, 27, 65 and 35. Reeve Doug Fraser was acclaimed to the position prior to the election. For Morris and Turn berry Town­ ship trustee Doug Gamiss won with 905. His opponent, Carmen Klaus, had 240. Mr. Gamiss led after the advance polls 16 to seven. At the regular polls he got 87, 73, 163 and 111, while Ms Klaus got 44, 48, 23 and 19. In Tumberry an overwhelming majority supported Mr. Garniss, 455 to 99 for Ms Klaus. The liquor license vote passed by 426 to 193, a 69 percent affirmative vote. Forty-five percent of Morris township voters turned out at the polls.
