County, council briefs Blyth to host re-enactment of first council meeting Blyth will host the re-enactment of the first meeting of Huron Coun ty Council. Blyth Memorial Hall will be the scene of the re-enactment on Satur day, Feb. 8, 1992 and will be per formed by students selected from Huron County secondary schools. Material for the re-enactment will be taken from the minutes of the first six meetings of the county council held Feb. 8-14, 1842, exactly 150 years ago the same week. The re-enactment will be a great step forward for Blyth. In 1842 at the time of the first council meet ing, Blyth didn't exist. ♦♦♦ The regular December meeting of Huron County Council will be moved into November on Wednes day, Nov. 27 and will be the last meeting of the current council. The current council will deal with the issues of the month, then tum over the reins of power to the new council in December. Charlene Lob singer read an address and Darlene was presented with many lovely and useful gifts, for which she thanked everyone and invited them to her parent's home to see all her gifts. of the new Huron County Warden will be Tuesday, Dec. 10. Commit tees will be set up and put in place at a meeting of council Wednesday, Dec. 11. In the running for Warden are Tom Tomes, Reeve of Stephen township and Robert Fisher, reeve of Zurich. ♦♦♦ Under the current economic cir cumstances, the Huron County Health Unit has decided not to go through with the expensive process of becoming accredited. Dr. Maarten Bokhout told Huron County Councillors at their Nov. 6 meeting that this certificate of approval from its peers would like ly cost the Health Unit $22,000 in additional costs to prepare to meet the inspections necessary. He said while he feels certain the Unit can meet the standards, in order to prove it, the county would have to put together the documentation to support its case. There would also be extra staff time necessary to pro vide for the accreditation process. *** Exeter Reeve Bill Mickle called for a zero per cent increase in the county budget next year. "We have an economy in Huron that is not good and to burden property own ers and businesses at this time is not acceptable," he said. He noted that Exeter's share of the total tax dollar as compared to the Board of Education and County has dropped to 38 per cent from 48 per cent 10 years ago. He called on the executive com munity to instruct department heads to plan on absolutely no increase ror next year. to the ratepayers or West Wawanosh Township for your support on November 12.
