McDonald home from hospital The Walton I unit of the U.C.W. met at the home of Gloria Wilbee for their meeting Thursday, November 14. Dorothy Sholdice opened with the thought for the day with the theme on Remembrance. Elva Wilbee was pianist for the hymn “Onward Christian Soldiers”. Audrey Hackwell read the scrip­ ture. Dorothy followed with medi­ tation and prayer. Offering was received and dedicated. Leona McDonald gave a reading on Remembrance. The hymn “Peace Perfect Peace” was sung. Leona closed the devotions with prayer. The topic on the “Point of Light” was chosen by Gloria Wilbee tak­ ing on years of history, looking back on the years of war “Why we wear a Poppy” with magazines on display to mark the war dead over Woman celebrates 75th birthday the years. Business continued with Gloria in charge. Announcements were given on from the executive meet­ ing. Church history books are still available. There was a discussion on the possibility of units joining to make one U.C.W. It was reported that the turkey supper was again very successful. The joint General meeting will be held Wednesday, December 4 with a pot luck meal at 6:30 p.m. The heritage books are available. White Gift Sunday is December 15. The minutes were read by Audrey Hackwell with the roll call taken, 20 answering on sharing a memory or experience. Doreen Hackwell gave the treasurer's report. The copper contest leaders Judy Emmrich and Doreen Hack­ well in the absence of Gloria Love, gave their report with Judy the win­ ner for the year. After Grace, a social half hour was enjoyed over lunch provided by Viola Traviss, Marie Coutts, Betty McCall and the hostess. Michael and Cheryl Beuermann and little son Nathan of Lambeth visited on Sunday with the former's grandmother, Isabelle Shortreed. Eleven people from this area attended the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto on Wednesday, November 13, boarding the bus at 8 a.m. at the hall with other pickups along the way. The bus trip was sponsored by the Huron-East District of the Women's Institute. On the way home they stopped for supper at Milton. All reported an enjoyable day. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Coleman and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Murray, all of London spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Huether. We are glad to report Don McDonald was able to return home after the week hospitalized in Seaforth Hospital. The community wishes him a good recovery. Robbie Lawrie On Friday evening a delicious dinner was served to by Karl and Annie MacNaughton at the Walton Inn in honour of Isabelle Short­ reed's birthday. Present for the occasion were Bill and Louis Smith of Amberly; Joan Beuermann of Stratford; Ken and Judy Shortreed, RR 3, Walton, as well as neigh­ bours Roy and Kathleen Williamson. Congratulations Isabelle on your 75th birthday from your many friends and neighbours. Bayfield pastor delivers sermon at Duff's Sunday morning worshippers at Duffs United Church were greeted by Allan and Alice Searles. The service was taken by Rev. Gordon Kurtz of Bayfield who spoke on his sermon, “Prophecy and the end time”. Glenda Carter was organist. Offering was gath­ ered by Allan Searle, Doug Fraser and Rick. The junior choir sang an anthem, led by Gloria Wiibee with Marion Godkin as pianist. Joanne McDon­ ald led in the children's lime. In the announcements are the senior choir practice Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 and an official board meeting at Bluevale United Church, Wed., Nov. 27 at 8 p.m. Next Sunday Robert Elliott will be in charge of the service at Duffs at 10 a.m. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE VILLAGE OF BRUSSELS Thank you for your support on November 12th.
