UCW makes Christmas tray favours
The November meeting of Lon-
desboro U.C.W. was held at the
church at 8 p.m. on Monday
evening, November 18.
The meeting opened with “The
United Purpose”. The worship ser
vice was held by Helen Lawson
and Edythe Beacom. Edythe told
the story about John MacCrea and
recited “In Flanders Field”.
Minutes of September meeting
were read. The treasurer's report
was given by Dorothy Tamblyn.
Betty Hulley reported three more
meals to serve before years end.
Everyone is to bring squares and
sandwiches on Anniversary Sun
day. The Sunday School bake sale
is December 7.
Thank you's were read from
Clara Riley, Mary Peel, Audrey
Thompson, Marion Snell and Joan
Whyte. A new shut-ins list is to be
made and Helen Lawson will look
after this. The nominating commit
tee is working on the slate of offi
cers for 1992.
Donations for 1991 were given
to: Medical Electives, Londesboro
United Church, Explorers, Sun
shine Foundation, Huron Day Cen
tre, CNIB Bluewater Club,
Londesboro Sunday School, Chris
tian Resource Centre, Seaforth
Hospital, Clinton Public Hospital,
Camp Menesetung, Friendship
House, Town and Country Home
makers and a donation for those
who go to the TocAlpha Confer
ence.
Tray favours were made for
Christmas Day at Clinton Hospital
led by Helen Lawson.
Lunch was served by Joan
Whyte, Yvonne Hoggart, Florence
Cartwright, and Betty Archam
bault.

Rev. Ross speaks at meeting
WI hears speaker from Bluewater Centre
The November meeting of Lon
desboro W.I. was held at the Hall
on Wednesday evening, November
13 at 8 p.m.
The president, Lois Elliott, read
“A Time for Reaching Out”. The
Opening Ode and Mary Stewart
Collect and O Canada were sung
and repeated in unison.
Roll Call was taken up. Minutes
of the September meeting were
read by Helen Lawson. Rene Snell
gave a report on the Huron County
Rally.
Correspondence was read.
Thank you's were read from Marie
Krauter, Survival For Friendship
House and the Huron County Dairy
Princess for the May meeting. A
donation was made to the Blyth
Legion for the Poppy Fund.
Helen Lawson gave the treasur
er's report. The next euchres are
November 29 and December 13.
Lois introduced the guest speaker
Barb Middegaal and her two guests
from the Bluewater Centre. She
showed slides and the three of them
explained much of their work at
this place.
Collection and Pennies were
taken up. Betty Hulley showed
some of her crafts. Margaret Taylor
showed her mop doll. Lois Elliott
and Rene Snell showed Christmas
table decorations. The Queen and
Grace were sung. Lunch was
served by Rene Snell, Hattie Wood
and Margaret Anderson.
Bums U.C.W. met at the Londes
boro United Church on Wednes
day, November 13 with 16
members and one visitor present.
Clara Riley opened the meeting
with a prayer of welcome. Hymn
545 was sung accompanied by Ida
Leiper on the piano. The Lord's
Prayer was repeated in unison. Beth
Knox read the scripture followed
by Hymn 504. Rev. Paul Ross was
the special guest speaker. Clara
thanked Paul, and all who took
part. Clara closed with hymn 496.
Rene Snell conducted the busi
ness and gave a reading. Roll call
was answered with a Bible verse
and minutes of the last meeting
were read. The treasurer's report
was given by Margaret Taylor.
Clara thanked the ladies for
remembering her when she was in
hospital. Gay Salverda made a
motion that we make a donation of
$1,000 to the church. Shut-in
Christmas treats will be delivered
again this year. A poinsettia will be
ordered for the church. The Christ
mas dinner meeting will be held at
the home of Marg Anderson on
December 4 at 1 p.m.
Members will exchange Christ
mas gifts valued at $5. All signed a
get-well card for Olwen Wood. The
meeting closed with prayer.
Quartet sings at United service
Greeters at Londesboro United
Church on Sunday, November 17
were Ron and Margarite Gross.
Ushers were Kelly Bosman, Cheryl
Thompson, Lindsay Salverda and
Melanie Knox.
This was Anniversary Sunday.
The choir sang an anthem “My
Tribute”. The male quartet from
Ontario Street United Church made
up of John Lavis, Don Symons,
George Turner and Stan Johns sang
twice: “Wandering Child O Come
Home” and “Just a Little Talk With
Jesus”.
Guest speaker was Tom Lyons
who is sponsored by the Canadian
International Development Agency
and Ontario Teachers Federation.
He is co-ordinator for Global Edu
cation. His topic was “A Down to
Earth View of the Cosmos”.
Huronview Fellowship Time will
be Thursday, November 21 at 1:15
Old-tyme dance
at Hullett
Mrs. Mary Longman and Mrs.
Dora Shobbrook of Clinton visited
on Sunday with Jack and Helen
Lee.
If you enjoy dancing to old-tyme
music come to Hullett Central
School on Wednesday evening,
November 20. This event is 8:30 to
11:30 p.m. Come out and enjoy
yourself.
There will be no shuffleboard
this week. Shuffleboard will
resume on Wednesday, November
27 at 8 p.m.
4H awards night
in Clinton, Fri.
4H members from across Huron
County will be gathering at Central
Huron Secondary School in Clinton
Friday night, Nov.. 22 for the annu
al 4-H Awards Night.
The event, starting at 8 p.m.
awards those 4-Hers who have
been tops in their various cate
gories such at the top 4-H show
man, top points-getter and more.
Local dignitaries will be on hand
for the presentations. Highlight of
the evening will be presentation of
the Murray Cardiff Citizenship
Award for the member deemed to
have contributed most to the com
munity.
p.m. Junior Youth Group will meet
Friday, November 22 at 7 - 9 p.m.
at Clinton Bowling Lanes for
Bowling. The cost will be $3.75.
Senior Youth Group will conduct
the service next Sunday.
Hullett passes by-law
Hullett council passed a by-law
at its meeting on November 5, re
zoning Part Lot 27, Cone. 4 from
general agriculture to general agri
culture special.
Authorization was given to Road
Superintendent James Johnston to
install electric door openers for
four doors for the township garage
at a price of $5,640 plus GST.
In a recorded vote, Mr. Johnston
was instructed to install four door
closers at a cost up to $5,640. Mr.
Johnston is to get up to three quotes
Shuffleboard
Shuffleboard was held at Hullett
Central School on Wednesday
evening, November 13 at 8 p.m.
High lady was Geraldine Dale and
high man, Lloyd Dale. There were
11 players.

Voting in favour were Reeve
Tom Cunningham, Councillor J.
Kenneth Anderson and Councillor
Ronald Gross. Opposed were
Deputy-Reeve Joe Gibson and
Councillor Robert Szusz.
A by-law was passed to provide
for a drainage works in Hullett and
for borrowing on the credit of the
municipality in the amount of
$27,250 for completing them.
Council had no concerns on the
sale of the Exeter-Goderich railroad
line. Council supported the county
in its endeavours to keep costs at a
minimum.
A by-law was passed imposing
special annual drainage rates upon
land in respect of which money is
borrowed under the Tile Drainage
Act in the amount of $15,500.
The accounts in the amount of
$184,060.97.
