The move worked this time as Brussels scored only once in the first period but the Crusaders went on to a 3-1 victory. Bulls alone in first, Barons upset The Brussels Bulls have taken over sole possession of first place in the Western Junior C loop. Another good offensive show by the Bulls and a helping hand from the Grand Valley Harvesters gave the Bulls a two-point lead over the defending All-Ontario Champion Hanover Barons. On Saturday night, the Har vesters pulled the upset of the young season, beating the Barons 5-4. On Sunday, Brussels ham mered the winless Wingham Iron men 9-1. Steve Fritz, Todd Norman and Ted Sills had two goals each to lead the Bulls. Scott Vader, Jamie Scott and Jamie Hislop rounded out the Brussels scoring. Jay Marston scored the Ironmen's only goal on the powerplay in the first. Veteran netminder Jeff Roy had his best outing of the season, turning aside 24 shots. Coach Scott Pettigrew was happy with his Bull's effort. “In six games we have only allowed nine goals which shows how hard everyone is working on defence,’* he said. “I was really happy to see the line of Fritz, McKee and Sills start click ing. They made some really nice plays utilizing their speed and that is what is going to make those three effective. If you check the score sheet it s also nice to see our three big lines each contributing.” First place will be on the line Fri day night in Hanover. The Bulls will be in Hanover for an 8:45 start. Last time the two teams met, they tied at 1. Coach Pettigrew says, “It will be tough going into their build ing for their home opener. I under stand they will be honouring last year’s champions in pre-game cere monies so we have to really con cern i aic io make sure we stay focussed on what we have to do to win the game.” From the Bulls Pen: Steve Barber will miss the Barons' game Friday night. He received a suspension on Sunday for being involved in the second fight in the same stoppage of play. Steve Fritz will also be missing in action. He has exams at University and won't be able to make it back for the game.s ports ....:...-........ 1 Blyth Bantams tune-up with exhibitions matches WESTERN JUNIOR C STANDINGS (as of October 28,1991) TEAM GP W L T GF GA PTS Brussels 6 5 0 1 43 9 11 Hanover 6 4 1 1 39 16 9 Gr.
