Eric Ross and Bob Richardson won the Ontario Provincial championship April 27 In ' competition at the Winston Churchill Branch In Toronto against 36 teams from nine districts in Ontario. They were undefeated in six rounds of best-two-of-three play never needing to go to the third game until the championship game against a team of Ajax. That won them the chance to play against teams from nine other provinces and the territories In Vernon, B.C. They arrived Friday and stayed until Tuesday, playing their particular part of the competition on Saturday. They looked forward to a trip to the beautiful Okanagan Valley community In the spring. Some people told them once they saw the valley they'd never want to come homo, Bob said. It's the farthest either of the men had gone in Legion competition although they have done well in numerous tournaments over the years. Both started playing in 1977. Bob moved to Drayton from Brussels In 1985 but still remains a member of the Brussels branch and returns for branch activities. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT: As we reach the end of our 60th year of Branch 218 Brussels, It would only be appropriate to start by saying "thank you" to the veterans and members who over the past 60 years have devoted so much of their time and labour to make this a successful and proud branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. They can be well satisfied with what has been achieved In that period. A special thank you should be mentioned of all the contributions that the Ladles Auxiliary have so graciously made In the past to help keep this branch alive and well. Membership Is very healthy, but the changes we have expected are beginning to show as the number of veteran members has decreased, while the associate category has increased proportionally. We have been wise In these past years to prepare associate members for these positions of trust within our Legion so that this great organization may continue to flourish and uphold the aims and objectives of the Legion. We welcome the public to Join In our social events such as dances and dinners, and any club or organization that can make use of the hall. It has taken the Legion many years of social activities, members' involvement and the town's continued support to see 60 successful years. In conclusion we, the members of Br. 218 hope for a strong and prosperous relationship with the community into the 21st century.
