Double Up On Your Fibre
If you’re like most Canadians,
you’re not getting enough fibre
each day. It’s estimated that most
people need twice as much as
they’re getting now. That amounts
to about 25 to 30
grams of fibre each
day. It sounds like a
lot of fibre, but it’s not
hard to get if you
choose the right
foods.
"Thanksgiving and Affluence"
was the theme of the Fall Thankof
fering service of the Blyth United
Church Women on Sunday, Octo
ber 6.
Greeters were Bea Chambers and
Diane Ferguson; ushers were Vera
Hesselwood and Feme McDowell.
Ollie Craig and June Peck were in
charge of the worship service,
which included two numbers by the
ladies choir - "O Love of God" and
"When Jesus meets the Soul in
Prayer", accompanied by Phyllis
Boak.
June Peck introduced the guest
speaker - Rev. Dr. George Her
manson. He is director of the Five
Oakes Christian Centre at Paris,
Ont. Before coming to Paris he was
Chaplain for 14 years at the Uni
versity of British Columbia. He
spoke on his work at Five Oakes as
well as the work of the Church in
general in supporting the Church
Universal through Mission and Ser
vice. He noted that Art and Crea
tivity are an important part of the
outreach of the Christian Church
and therefore the Blyth Summer
Festival is part of that Outreach
Program - especially the way area
Church Women help by providing
meals.
A frightening statistic he reported
is that only 27 per cent of Canadi
ans listed Religion as being impor
tant to them even though 80 per
cent said they believe in God.
What's wrong? This is our chal
lenge to raise that 27 per cent and
we can do this by giving to the
Mission and Service Funds in our
local churches.
Susan Howson thanked the
speaker. A delicious lunch was
served by the ladies of the Sunshine
Unit.
