Brussels council briefs Councillors support resolution to aid farmers Brussels council will support a resolution from Ashfield calling for more provincial and federal gov ernment money for fanners. Councillors decided at their meeting Oct. 7 that they would sup port the resolution even though most didn’t know the specifics of the kind of aid Ashfield councillors wanted. "When farmers are making money everybody else is making money to," said Reeve Gordon Workman. "If this country can get along without farmers it will sur prise me." A resolution supporting Ashfield will be presented at a meeting Oct. 21 when council meets to discuss salaries. already been paid. requesting co-operation but they ♦** decided it wasn't up to them to Councillors will send a letter solve noise problems after a com- plaint from a Princess St. resident The village has no anti-noise about a neighbour who played bylaw and I dont want any noise music too loud bylaw, said Councillor Hastings. OCTOBER OCTOBER 14 - 26 CD CD Councillors delayed signing two agreements until they received fur ther information. One agreement would bind the Brussels, Morris and Grey Commu nity Centre to selling any cola drink but Coke for 10 years in exchange for Coke providing a time clock for the arena. The old clock at the arena had needed more than $4000 in repairs so the recreation committee had reached the agreement with Coke for a new clock which has already been installed. Councillors were uncomfortable with the length of the agreement and felt the signing of the agreement should be delayed. Another agreement with the Huron County Board of Education for use of the Brussels Public School for recreational purposes was also left unsigned awaiting more information. The agreement would cost the village $1 a year for 20 years. Currently there are no recreation committee sponsored programs that use the school grounds but the soccer field at the school grounds has been improved al a cost of $5000 for use by the local soccer teams, said Councillor Greg Wilson. "I don’t want the school board telling us we can’t use it if we don’t sign the agreement," he said. Council will seek more informa tion on the agreement before sign ing it. Mary Gurica of Keswick, owner of a Turnberry St. house that is badly in need of repairs, told coun cil she had hoped to fix up the his toric building when she bought it but family illness had delayed her plans. Now, she said, she had decided the job was just too much for her and she was trying to sell the house. "The place looks a mess. I'm more embarrassed about it than anyone," she said. She said she has already done work the board up the house and make it safe but she would do more work this fall, and if the house wasn't sold, do more work in the spring. "I hope you realize we have to act," Reeve Workman told her. "We've had complaints." Mrs. Gurica said she understood.♦♦♦ A dog owner who sold his dog after only a month, won't get a refund on the other 11 months of his dog licence. The owner had asked for the refund but Reeve Workman cast the deciding "no" vote after council had split 2-2 on the question. Councillor Bruce Hahn, who supported the request, said he wouldn't have bothered ask ing for a refund on the $8 fee him self, but he didn't see the difference in giving this refund and refunding taxes to someone who sold a home or closed a business after taxes had 597-924 And get a Black and Decker Professional 3/8" Reversing Drill 14400 Manufacturer’s Sugg List Price MOTORISTS!
