B elgraveThe news from Compiled by Helen Stonehouse Phone 887-9487 17CW learns about reflexology The regular monthly meeting of the Evening Unit of Knox United Church, Belgrave was held Tues­ day evening, October 1 at the home of Mrs. Ruth Johnston with 19 members and one visitor in atten­ dance. Members answered the roll call with a Bible verse containing the word "thanks". Leader Mrs. Wilma Higgins wel­ comed everyone and read an autumn poem. Mrs. Donna Shaw and Mrs. Muriel Coultes conducted the worship. Psalm 97 was read and hymns were sung. Donna reflected on our lives as related to Thanks­ giving. Worship closed with the offering and prayer. Mrs. Mabel Wheeler introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Darlene Empey. Darlene explained her work as a reflexologist. Stress is largely responsible for many of our illnesses, Pressure points in the feet are directly related to the various organs of the body. Relief can be gained by therapeutically exercis­ ing pressure to the related pressure points. Mrs. Donna Shaw thanked Darlene. The roll call for November will be the donation of a loony toward the Mission and Service Fund. Benediction closed the meeting. 4H club chooses name The second meeting of Belgrave 2, 4H club was held October 1 at the Women's Institute Hall, Bel­ grave. The meeting opened with the 4H pledge and everyone answered the roll call by naming the kind of milk your family uses. The members chose Belgrave Milk Makers for a club name. Members made potato soup and hot cocoa which tasted delicious. The meeting closed with the 4H motto. Mrs. Wilma Higgins served a deli­ cious lunch and a social time was enjoyed. Howatts mark milestone anniversary Edgar and Feme Howatt of RR1, Belgrave, celebrated a milestone on October 4, 1991 al a party al Blyth Community Centre in honour of the couple's 55th wedding anniversary. It was September 30, 1936, when the former Elsie Lillian Feme Plowman, the daughter of James and Eliza Plowman married the son of William James and Francis E. Howatt at the Auburn United Church manse. The officiating min­ ister was Rev. Hugh Wilson. The couple was attended by Edna (Plowman) Rudell of Sault Ste. Marie and Mildred (Plowman) Welsh of RR2, Wingham. The newlyweds enjoyed a honey­ moon trip to Burr, London and Strathroy riding in a Model T Ford. A farmer throughout his life, Mr. Howatt has been affiliated with the Orange Lodge and is a member of Donnybrook Church. His special Area people enjoy trip Mrs. Larry Ellis (Sonja Stone­ house) of Whilevale spent a couple of days with her uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse. Visitors at the home of Mrs. Audrey MacKay, RR 5, Wingham on Wednesday, October 2 were Mrs. Sonja Ellis of Whitcvale, Mrs. Agnes Walker of Maple Grove Lodge, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Walker, all of Goderich; Mrs. Bill Coultes; Mrs. Glenn Coultes of RR 5, Brus­ sels; Mrs. Sam Pletch and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse of Bel­ grave. Mrs. Dorothy Logan and Mrs. Laura Johnston accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Vincent on a motor trip last week up to the Dorset and Bracebridge area. interests include playing cards. Mrs. Howatt was a homemaker and mother, and has taken an inter­ est over the years in showing veg­ etables, baking and flowers at area fall fairs. She has also volunteered her time catering to dinners. The Howatts family includes: Ruth and David Webster, Doreen and Bill Taylor, Ivan and Connie Howatt, Dorothy and Melvin Bogie, Douglas and Sherry Howatt and Ronald Howatt. A son, Gordon Kenneth died in infancy. The Howatts also have 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Highlights at the anniversary cel­ ebration included a poetry recita­ tion by the Howalt's granddaughter, Jenna and musical selections played on the violins by the three Onn children. Guests for the evening came from Cookstown, London, Mitchell, Milverton, Brunner and the surrounding area. Special music was provided by Tiffins Orchestra and Ned Thomp­ son. PITCH-IN CANADA!
