Blyth council hold open house Blyth Council will move its Oct. meeting from Oct. 9 to Oct. 2 to be part of Local Government Week in Ontario. Councillors agreed at their Sept. 11 meeting to change the date of the meeting and advertise the meet ing as an "open house" so that resi dents can come and watch council in action. If too many members of the pub lic accept the invitation the meeting may have to be moved since coun cil decided to hold the meeting in the council chambers where all reg ular open meetings of council are held and where there is little room for visitors. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. the problems fixed and then council would look at the situation. He felt council should be willing to pay for helping to make sure the system worked as far as Memorial Hall was concerned but didn't feel the village should help pay for work necessitated by improvements to the Festival's own building.♦♦♦ A letter was received from Al Sygrove, principal of Blyth Public School, acknowledging the co operative spirit of the summer recreation program this summer and praising the work of Heather McDonald of the recreation pro gram. The recreation program bor rowed equipment from the school for its activities and the village, in tum, donated money to the school for use in replacing any damaged recreational equipment or buying more. Meeting to 2nd, 1991. n ft Vour Loca' THIS *** Councillors indicated they still weren't happy with paying the bill for bringing in an outside firm to look over the healing and cooling system at Blyth Memorial Hall. Council had earlier received a letter from Joel Harris, general manager of the Blyth Festival, asking that council pay half of the bill of over $4000 to the work. But Councillor Dave Lee said the problems found in the inspection "seem to be just the tip of the ice berg. There seem to be a lot of. things wrong." He said he had thought the council had indicated the Festival was supposed to get all at arena this weekend. The Blyth and District Commu nity Centre Board is hosting its first Toy and Card Show at the arena on Sunday, September 29, beginning at 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Inspired by the number of local people who have substantial card and toy tractor collections,Chair man of the Community Centre Board, Hebo Siertsema, said the board has been discussing this idea for a fundraising event for a while now. A committee visited other toy shows and various other events, distributing flyers to promote the show. Dealers and collectors could rent tables for display or selling. The committee had planned for a maxi mum of 32 tables and Mr. Siertse ma says they expect about 10 with toy tractors and a higher number displaying card collections. Admission is $2 for adults and children 12 and under are admitted free if accompanied by an adult.
