Paul Acton 887-9273 BY REV. CAMERON McMillan BRUSSELS AND ETHEL UNITED CHURCHES One day Jesus took his friends io a remote place and asked them an important question. “Who do you say that I am?” Peter replied: “You are Christ.” All the other disciples agreed with him. Jesus then told his friends that he would have to suffer and die on a cross, but three days later he would rise from the dead. He concluded his remarks by saying: “If any per son would follow me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and fol low me. For whoever would save his life will lose it. And whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospels will save it.” Christians are supposed to be willing to make sacrifices. Carolyn McAvoy officiating. The maid of honour was Colleen Pro-Life resumes meetings The Wingham & District Pro- Life committee held its first meet ing on September 9 for the 1991-92 season. Nancy McKeon welcomed every one back after the summer break and opened with a moment of devotion. Sally Campeau, the education representative, reported that litera ture forwarded to local high schools was well received. These free pamphlets are available at your guidance office. The district was represented in the June Life Chain Rally held in Kitchener. Demonstrations were held throughout Ontario with a large number of participants. The fetal models was one of the asked to put aside personal prefer ences, take difficult stands and sup port Christian principles. One day, a Christian monk named Tclcmanchus was outraged by the gladiator fights then going on in Rome. Two adult men, sup posedly Christians, would fight each other with swords until one of them died before a large crowd of spectators. It was a popular form of public amusement at the time. As the fight was going on, Tele- manchus hopped into the ring and stood between the two gladiators. The fighting stopped for an instant. Then one of the gladiators raised his sword and thrust it through Telemanchus' body, killing him. The crowd of 80,000 spectators watched. They were stunned and became very silent. They were shocked to see a holy man killed in this terrible way. MacDonald of Stratford, sister of the groom. The best man was Jerry Bremner of Kitchener, brother of the bride. Shawn Bremner of Brus sels, brother of the bride ushered the guests. An outdoor dinner and reception followed the ceremony. The couple gave special thanks to Don McNeil for their wonderful ride around town. Jim and June now reside in Stratford. main attractions of the booth at the Teeswaler Fall Fair. With the large turnout for the fair, the booth received good exposure. The exceptional TV presentation of “Feel the Heartbeat” will be aired on October 20 and December 8 at 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. respec tively. Next on the agenda was finance report. The group has committed itself to several key projects in the next fiscal year and is hoping for a good donation response from local organizations and churches to meet their objectives for 1991-92. On October 6 a Life Chain will be held across the United Slates in support of Life. A link to spread across Canada is also anticipated. The crowd knew that Telc- manchus was right. Gladiator fight ing was cruel and evil and should be stopped. There was no more gladiator fighting after that. Historians said that Tclcmanchus' death was more useful to the world than his life. By losing his life in support of something he believed in, Tclcmanchus did far more good for the world than he did by all his earlier praying. We will not likely have to die to support a good purpose in the way that Jesus and Telemanchus did. However, we all know of evils in the world, in our own home and in our own personal lives that we need to fight against. To stand up for something, to make our lives count, to support a good cause, that is “bearing our cross” to support Christ's cause. That is the challenge that lies before us all. Family provides special music at service Al the regular Sunday morning service on September 8, Pastor Tom Warner preached from Psalms 66:18 on the topic of “Hindrance to Prayer”. The Larprom Family pro vided musical numbers. Later the same day, an Installa tion Service was held for Pastor Warner. Elwin Garland was wor ship leader at this service. Pastor Glenn Zehr from Riversdale Men- nonite Church gave the message. Mervin and Tillie Lichty, Sharon and Rob Demaray ministered with special music. Following the instal lation the congregation and guests gathered in the Fellowship Hall for a pot-luck lunch and socializing. On Sunday, September 15, Pastor Warner continued the theme of prayer, and spoke on “The Habit of Prayer”. He stressed the need in everyone's life for a quiet time with God. The congregation met at Gar land's for a barbecue lunch and social time to honour Sylvia and Doug Cameron on their marriage earlier this summer. On Tuesday evening, the Ladies Group will meet at the Church. Anne Hemingway and Phylis Fyn will be in charge of the meeting. As well as the regular service next Sunday, September 22, a “Hymn Sing” service will be held Sunday evening at 7 p.m. Group performs at Missionary Church “Shepherd of Love” was the song that Marilyn and Jim Campbell so ably presented at the morning ser vice on Sunday, September 15 at the Auburn Missionary Church. Pastor Carne's message was “Wisdom of the Word” from Malt. 7: 24-27. Some say they will not acknowledge God so they are fools. The devil who is a liar from the beginning says we don't need God but if we fall for that lie we are fools. God is a rewarder to those who diligently seek Him and God will honour those who honour Him. Sometimes it takes a disaster to make us realize that we have been fools. The Aubum Missionary Church was filled Sunday evening to hear the Kubassek Brothers in music and testimony. These business men were a blessing to all. SEPTEMBER 22 - PENTECOST 18 TRINITY, BLYTH ST.
