Legion hosts Pub Night, Fri. BY SANDRA JOSLING This week is Legion Week September 15-21. The Legion would like to make the public aware of the different classes of memberships you may be eligible to join in the Royal Cana­ dian Legion. These being: 1. ORDINARY memberships, these are persons whom have served or are serving in the Armed Forces, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Militia and Commissioned Officers on the Cadet Instructor list. 2. ASSOCIATE membership, these are a spouse of an Ordinary or Life member, the son or daugh­ ter of an Ordinary or Life Member, or anyone who has served three years in the Canadian Armed Forces Cadet Groups. 3. FRATER­ NAL Affiliates, these are persons not eligible for Ordinary or Associ­ ate membership to be Affiliated to the Branch Fraternal for social and Educational purposes. All persons eligible for membership in the Royal Canadian Legion would be very welcome. Anyone wishing more information can phone the Brussels Legion at 887-6562 after 4 p.m. Monday to Friday or after 12 noon on Saturdays. The Brussels Branch will be open to the public for a social Pub Nite Friday, Sept. 20 at 9 p.m. Euchre will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7:45 p.m. Cost is $1.50 per person with lunch being served. All are invited to play. Results of our Monday night fun darts are: Bill Nethery and Dave Adams, first; Kitty Rutledge and Debbie Cann, second; High shooter for the ladies was Kitty Rutledge (121) and for the men Adam Smith (126). Brussels boasts new business Brian McKnight has recently opened a new upholstery business in Brussels. McKnight Upholstery is located at 454 Tumberry St. Mr. McKnight brings 17 years of experience to the trade, having worked for such companies over the years as Lazy Boy, Flexsteel and Kroehlers. He began upholstering as a work- related hobby, using his kitchen table as a work place, and soon dis­ covered there was an overwhelm­ ing demand for his services, he Trust, roll call at WMS meeting said. In addition to home furniture restoration, McKnight Upholstery offers automotive upholstering, antique restoration, frame repair, cushion replacement and wood restoration. RASPBERRIES The September meeting of Melville W.M.S. was held in the church parlor with eight members and one visitors answering the roll call within a Bible verse containing the word “trust”. Helen Elliott, the President, opened the meeting with a poem “I could not find a step” and prayer. Hymns were sung with Helen Elliott al the piano. The secretary's report was given by Ruby Steiss and the treasurer's report by Isabel Adams. Collected E M.A. slips are to be handed in at the October meeting. Leona Armstrong gave a paper on “The Sound of the Drums”. Ruth Martin led in prayer. Helen Elliott showed pictures of people who worked in the W.M.S. book rooms at Don Mills and Helen also gave a talk on Japan. The scripture from Matthew, chapter 5, verses 3-16 were read in unison. Leona Armstrong read about “Great Granny” and her stay in Oshkosh at the airplane show and meeting relatives at Sauli Ste. Marie and attending a reunion. Helen Elliott closed the meeting with prayer. All regular garbage should be set out by 8:00 a.m. Thank you, Council of the Village of Brussels Two local residents participated in the Wingham Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 15. Dianne Huelher and Gary Pipe, along with approximately 80 other participants, completed the 10 kilo­ metre route in lower Wingham in 100 minutes. The pair collected a combined total of over $500 in pledges to support this Canadian Cancer Soci­ ety fundraiser. Congratulations on a job well done! Members of the Brussels 11 Mite Boys' baseball team challenged their moms to a year-end game on September 10 at the arena diamond. It was a good close game, but better yet, a fun experience for both sides. Members of the Mite team are: Dale Martin, Adam Albers, Philip Leger, Matthew Elliott, Joel Kellington, Nathan Garland, Brian Oldfield, Kevin Mutter, Robbie Kerr, Stephen Todd, Brandon Gravestock, Tyler Bragg, and Joshua Gropp. Playing on the moms' team Tues­ day, were: Yvonne Albers, Mary Jane Leger, Stephanie Kellington, Linda Garland, Darlene Oldfield, Barb Mutter, Delores Kerr, Lois Todd, Barb Bragg and Bonnie Gropp. After the game, coaches Wayne Todd and Joe Kerr and their fami­ lies treated the players to hot dogs, pop, and chips. Mrs. Winona Marlin was in Exeter on Saturday to attend the funeral of her niece, Mrs. Norah (McInnis) Taylor.
