It's amazing to be at the fairgrounds
when a meeting of the Huron Pioneer
Thresher and Hobby Association is about
to take place.
People wonder in a few at a time,
coming from all corners southwestern
Ontario. The president, Jim Sloan, for
instance, travels down from Chesley for
meetings. Roy Moore, in charge of gas
engines, comes from Stratford. Joan
Houston, in charge of crafts, comes from
Owen Sound and Darryl Searson, one of
the directors, travels north from the Sarnia
area.
It takes thousands of volunteer hours to
pul on an event like the Thresher Reunion
everything from putting up snow fences
for crowd control to mapping out where
everything will be, from arranging
transportation for the larger piece of
equipment to manning the gates during the
three days. Blyth gets the credit for the
event but it wouldn't happen without the
people from all over the province who
help out.
