Belgrave Squirts hang on
to win northern playoff
Letter from the editor
Belgrave Squirts scored early,
then held on for a win in the decid
ing game of their Tri-County Squirt
softball series against Fordwich in
Fordwich Wednesday.
With the win Belgrave captures
the north Division title and
advances to play the winner of the
south division.
Jamie McCallum pitched Bel
grave to the win, holding Fordwich
scoreless in three of the six innings.
After a scoreless first inning,
Belgrave broke on top with two
runs in the top of the second. Jere
my Campbell and David McBumey
scored. But in the bottom of the
inning, Fordwich struck back for
four runs to take the lead.
Belgrave recaptured the lead in
the lop of the third with three runs
as Michael McBurney, Justin
Campbell and Jamie McCallum
crossed the plate.
After blanking Fordwich in the
bottom of third inning, Belgrave
put the game away in the top of the
fourth with five more runs. Scoring
were Michael Marks, Kevin Camp
bell, Michael Sanders, Michael
McBumey and Justin Campbell.
Again Jamie McCallum shut
down the Fordwich attack in the
bottom of the fourth and Belgrave
scored a final run in the top of the
fifth as Rolf scored.
Forwich made it exciting, howev
er as they scored one run in the bot
tom of the fifth, shut out Belgrave
in the top of the sixth, and pushed
across four more runs in the bottom
of the sixth before their comeback
attempt ran out of steam leaving
Belgrave with an 11-7 win.
