Tough market drives slaughter prices down Sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending August 30 were: slaughter cattle, 649; cows, 191; veal calves, 127; lambs and goats, 87; pigs, 134; Stockers, 485. Slaughter cattle sold on a very tough trade, with prices $2 - $4 lower from previous week. Cows sold on a steady demand. There were 429 steers on offer selling from $81.85 to $85.40 to the high of $93.25. One steer con­ signed by Allan Nigh, Seaforth weighed 1240 lbs. sold for $87. Six steers consigned by Frank Nigh, Seaforth averaging 1240 lbs. sold for an average price of $86.25 to a high of $92.25. Forty-five steers consigned by W. B. Pletch Co. Ltd., Rockwood averaging 1225 lbs. sold for an average price of $84.50 to a high of $93.25. Three steers consigned by Frank Dolmage, Seaforth averaging 1207 lbs. sold for an average price of $84.20 to a high of $85.25. Three steers consigned by Ron McClure, Walton averaging 1096 lbs. sold for an average price of $83.50 to a high of $85.25.
