HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1991-09-04, Page 9Walton area girls win Queen of the Furrow Two Walton-area ladies were at the top of the Queen of the Furrow competition at the Huron County Plowing Match Friday in Morris Township. Sherry Hoegy, daughter of Bany and Karen Hoegy, R.R.l, Walton was crowned Queen of the Furrow at the event, held at the farm of Keith and Bonnie Johnston, R.R.2, Bluevale. Runner-up for the title was Lorrie Glanvile, daughter of Ken and Betty Glanville, R.R.4, Walton. Sherry Hoegy will represent the Huron County Plowman's Associa­ tion at local activities for the next year then represent the county at the 1992 International Plowing Match. She was crowned by anoth­ er Walton-area girl, last year’s win­ ner, Leanne Whitmore of R.R.4, Walton. Ms Whitmore gave the speech she will deliver at the 1991 International Plowing Match later this month in Lambton County. Also participating in the competi­ tion were: Sandy Bennett, daughter of Ron and Barb Bennett, R.R.l, Gorrie; Denise Gross, daughter of Ron and Marguerite Gross, R.R.l, Londesboro; Christine Schade, daughter of Bill and Ann Schade, R.R.3, Dashwood, and Sherri McLachlan, daughter of Jack and Mary Helen McLachlan, R.R.3, Kippen. The girls competed in a plowing class in the morning, then took part in individual interviews with the three judges and finally gave a speech to the public. Family visits Jim, Helen and Kory Duncan of Russell, Manitoba visited for two weeks with their parents Allan and Alice Searle and Ross and Kay Duncan. Gail Searle was home for the weekend. They all spent a few days in Goderich visiting with Earl and Mary Pennington and family. Helen attended her 20 year nurses reunion held at the Oakwood Inn at Grand Bend. Harvey and Margaret Craig returned home last Wednesday from a three-week holiday when they attended the Stewart family gathering al Irricana, Alta. They also visited relatives and friends in the Regina area. Richard and Brian Love spent the Labor Day weekend at the home of their parents. They are both at Bar­ rie. Brian has started to attend Georgian College in Barrie. Mary Humphries visited with George and Kim Kruse and family of Bayfield, celebrating her grand­ son Bryce's first birthday last Wednesday. Family members visiting with Doug and Marjory Fraser on Sun­ day were Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Fraser and family of Tecumseh, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Sullivan and family and Cheryl Fraser, all of Waterloo. Just a reminder that this is Arthri­ tis month, watch for your canvasser when they call on each house in the village. WI changes meeting date The September meeting of the Walton Women's Institute has been moved a week ahead to Tuesday, September 10 at 8 p.m. to accom­ modate the speaker, an exchange student from Australia. Everyone is welcome. It's an open meeting. At the 35th anniversary celebra­ tion of the Walton W.I. on August 21, we are sorry to report Elva Bol­ ger's name was omitted from the names absent.
