Phone 523-4360 Be prepared, sermon topic Church resumed on Sunday, September 1 after a three-week holiday. Ushers were Theresa Knox and Shannon Duizer. This was hymn-sing Sunday. The sermon topic was “Be Prepared - Responding to God’s Word”. Next Sunday is Rally Sunday for another new year of Sunday School. Flowers on memorial stand in memory of Margaret Whyte, placed by the family. Senior choir practice was Thurs­ day, September 5 at Lears at 7:45 p.m. September 8 and 15 at 10:30 a.m. The Congregational Life and Work Committee will be held on Wednesday, September 4 at 8 p.m. al the manse. Helping out WI to see antiques Members of the Londesboro 4H Conservation Club recently visited Hullett Wildlife Centre to help with various tasks including cleaning out wood duck nesting boxes and banding ducks. 4H Club visits wildlife area Londesboro W.I. members take note that the September meeting is on Wednesday, Sept. 11 - meet at Bob Battye’s place on the Base Line at 2 p.m. to view his antiques. Members will then return to the hall for meeting and lunch. Roll call is “What Impressed You Most on your Tour.” Mrs. Florence Cartwright attend­ ed the 25th wedding anniversary of her sister Betty, and Elroy Kuntz of Kitchener on the weekend. Her mother Mrs. Rinn of Belgrave went with her. BY JENNIFER SZUSZ On August 14 the Londesboro 4H club travelled to the Hullett Provincial Wildlife Area. Members met Rob Gibson the deputy conservation officer. From him they learned about the different kinds of ducks and put leg bands on most of them. They also emptied some of the 30-50 woodduck nest­ ing boxes. They had to get to these by canoe which proved to be a lot of fun. The day ended with a barbe­ cue lunch. On August 29 the Londesboro 4H club went down to the Maitland River behind Thelma Dougherty's. They waded through the river find­ ing crayfish, fish and beaver dams. As they waded they also picked up the garbage. They didn't happen to see the beavers themselves but it was interesting seeing what they built their dams with. It was such a hot day, the cooling water felt very refreshing. Cheerio Club meets The August meeting of the Chee­ rio Club was held at the home of Mary Longman, Clinton on Wednesday afternoon. August 28. The minutes of the July meeting were read. The financial report was given. Roll call was answered by nine members. There were three visitors. Vietta Hoggart gave a reading “A Good Neighbour”. Collection and draw money was taken up. The draw, donated by Laura Lyon, was won by June Fothergill. Mary had a word con­ test, won by Edythe Beacom. Ora Bruce gave Mary a gift from Lon­ desboro friends and neighbours. Mary thanked everyone. Cards were played. The September meeting is group four. Lunch was served by Ora Bruce, Vietta Hoggart and Mary Longman. People Mrs. Sandra Logan and boys Scott and Spencer of London visit­ ed with her mother, Margaret Good on Thursday.
