Committee cancels fair queen contest Celebrating 50 Clayton and Ruth Sauve of Brussels celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday surrounded by family and friends. Family members from as far away as California attended. Jeff Huelher of Brampton was a member of the Brampton "AAA" Baseball Club that won the Ontario Championships in Windsor. In winning the title, they defeated Markham, London, Toronto West Hill, Hamilton and St. Catherines. The major tyke team also won the St. Catherines, Brampton, Cam­ bridge, and Walkerton tournaments and finished the year with a record of 45 wins and three losses. Bee f club judges heifers BY VERONICA GROBBINK The fifth meeting of the Brussels Dairy Club was held at the home of Jim and Evelyn Blake. Carla Johnston opened the meet­ ing with the 4H pledge. Bonni Johnston and John McFadzean asked the members if they had any problem with their calf record sheets. After that members went to the barn to judge two year old heifers. Keith Johnston was the official judge. After the meeting they had a pool party and had refreshments. Kevin Huether was a member of the Brampton "AAA" Minor Tyke Baseball Club. This team won the Burlington and Brampton tourna­ ments and placed second in the Streetsville tournament. They lost to Streetsville in the Championship of the Central Ontario Baseball Association (COBA) regionals. Jeff and Kevin are the grandsons of Mary and Murray Huether of Brussels. Barb Mutter, secretary/treasurer of the Brussels Agricultural Society noted that as fair day approaches, there are still many volunteer posi­ tions available for anyone interest­ ed in helping the committees in some way. If someone can lend a hand, they should give one of the directors a call. Despite the diligent efforts of the Queen of the Fair committee, who contacted some 30 possibles in the hopes of increasing the number of participants, they were unable to find enough willing competitors. "Many of the girls were going away to university and just didn't feel they could afford the time," said Isabel Wheeler, committee member. As the committee had decided earlier that a suitable minimum number of contestants would be six, they felt that having only three was too few so agreed to cancel the event.
