Tenders called for new sidewalks
Tenders will be called for the
construction of up to three more
blocks of new sidewalk in Brussels
this summer.
Brussels councillors decided at
their Aug. 6 meeting that they
would tender for the work rather
than stretch the village workforce
to the breaking point. "These guys
just haven't got the time," Reeve
Gordon Workman said, referring to
the village staff.
Two blocks of John St. and one
block of Albert St. will be included
in the tenders. Those tendering will
be asked to tender on a per-block
basis so that the village can cut
. back if necessary to meet the bud
get.
The tender of H. TenPas Con
struction was accepted for replace
ment of windows on the main floor
of the Brussels library building.
The tender price, at $6,490 was
considerably lower than the other
tenders received.
A letter is to be sent to the owner
of an abandoned house to say that
the village council wants the house
repaired. The owner is to be told
that if repairs aren't made, council
will ask the house be condemned.

reported that according to enumera
tion statistics, the population of
Brussels has now reached 1126.
Council agreed the population
should be adjusted on the entrance
signs to the village.
Councillors also agreed the vil

signs next year. Councillors were
impressed with signs in Seaforth
and Blyth.
Council will explore the possibil

use newspaper for bedding. Coun
cil was told that there could be
major savings in recycling costs if
another method of disposal could
be found for used newspapers.
The six-month probation period

confirm his appointment as chief
building official for the village. "I
think he’s doing a cracking good
job," Reeve Workman said. Coun
cil also agreed to pay half the cost
of Mr. Josling's attendance at a
conference for chief building offi
cials. The other half of the costs
will be picked up by Blyth, where
Mr. Josling is also chief building
official.
