Brakes on

during a game against Seaforth Ball Blasters during the
B&W Trailblazers tournament in Brussels Sunday. Ball
Blasters were runners up in the open division of the
tournament, losing to a team from St. Marys.
On July 11 Blyth Mosquitoes
travelled to Goderich to meet the
Goderich B team. Early in the first
half Blyth went into the lead with a
pass from Michael Courtney and
Cappy Onn putting it in the bottom
comer.
This proved to be the last lead in
the game for Blyth as Goderich
came back with four goals. Blyth
showed a lot of heart and hard
work finally gave Blyth its second
goal with Matthew Morrison shoot-»
ing in a long high shot from
Michael Ansley. The final score
was a 5-2 loss.
On July 15 Blyth hosted
Goderich A in Belgrave. Witn a
good pep talk Blyth got off on the
right foot. With lots of hard work
and determination Blyth went
ahead by one on a short pass from
April Van Amersfoort in front of
the net that Michael Courtney put
home. This ended the first half.
Blyth showed the same kind of
play in the second half as Brent
Hazelgrove gave two nice passes to
Michael Courtney for two more
goals to put Blyth up by three
goals. But that was not the end of it
as a big scramble in front of
Goderich's net allowed Michael
Courtney to find the ball and gave
it to Matthew Morrison who then
nicely picked an open spot to tally
the 4-0 win. The Blyth team played
a disciplined game which they
enjoyed very much. Pop was then
enjoyed by all. Next game will be
August 1 in Goderich.
ATOMS
On July 8, Goderich A team
came to Belgrave to meet the Blyth
Atom team.
With the Blyth team being a few
short, coaches had to recruit a few
players. The game was underway
and was a tense one all the way
through to the last second.
Blyth again got on the scoreboard
first as Cappy Onn made a nice
pass from outside left to Matt
Anderson for his first of the night.
Goderich came right back with two
goals to go ahead by one.
But Blyth, showing that they
weren’t going to quit, also came
back with two goals. Justin Sauve
came up with an assist as Matt
Anderson got his second goal.
David Ansley made a nice long
pass up the sideline to April Van
Amersfoort who put it in the net.
This gave Blyth a 3-2 lead. Then
Jeremy Van Amersfoort gave Matt
Anderson a beautiful 40 yard pass
up the centre to give him a break
away for his third of the night.
But Goderich was not finished
and caught Blyth off guard three
limes for three quick goals. Blyth
did manage to come so close with
10 seconds left in the game but
took a 5-4 loss. This was a well-
played game by all, and enjoyed by
all fans.
On July 16 Blyth travelled to
Goderich to take on the tough
Goderich B team. This was a fast-
paced game as play went from end
to end. Al the five minute mark
Steve Raymond made a pass to
Michael Courtney to give Blyth a
1-0 lead, but Goderich came back
to tie it minutes later. Blyth kept up
the hard work and went ahead 3-1
as Michael Ansley put in Blyth’s
second goal from Steve Raymond.
The third goal was scored by Steve
Raymond as Jud Hakkers set him
up. The score stayed this way until
well into the second half when
Goderich put in two quick goals to
tie the game 3-3. But Blyth was
tireless as Ansley again scored his
second of the night, set up by
Michael Courtney. At this point of
the game it could have gone either
way but Blyth made sure as Jud
Hakkers made a cross field pass to
April Van Amersfoort who put it
high to beat the goalie. Goderich
came back with one more goal later
in the game. But Blyth hung on for
the win 5-4.
This was a well played game by
all and they sure were excited as
this was their last game of the year
and their first win.
