Walton Walton hosts summer visitors Five area students were among the 17 graduates of F.E. Madill Secondary School who were named Ontario Scholars. In order to receive this recognition, students must achieve at least 80 percent in six Ontario Academic Credits (OAC’s). Compiled by Mrs. Betty McCall. Phone 887-6677 B&W snowmobile club hosts ball tournament BEN BARNES Ben Barnes is the son of Jim and Pat Barnes of RR5, Brussels. He attended East Wawanosh Public School. Ben will be entering Queen's University in Kingston in the fall, where he will major in Political Science. PATRICIA COWMAN Patricia Cowman will be attend­ ing the University of Waterloo in September where she will studying in the co-op math program. The daughter of Gord and Sharon Cow­ man of RR2, Blucvale, Patricia attended Grey Central Public School and hopes to eventually become a teacher. JANICE HEISE Janice Heise, RR2, Bluevale, is the daughter of Vcrn and Mary Heise. A graduate of Brussels Pub­ lic School, Janice will be attending Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo. Her major is Honours Psychology and English. MELINDA HUSSEY Melinda Hussey is the daughter of Dale and Marion of RR1, Bel­ grave. She attended East Wawanosh Public School. Melinda is going to be entering the Arts at Western University in September. She plans to become a primary teacher. The Walton Brussels and Walton Trail Blazers Tournament was held on the weekend with games played at the Walton Park on Friday evening and Saturday. Games were also played at the Brussels Ball Diamond, finishing on Sunday. There were 16 teams participat­ ing in the open division and six teams were in the snowmobile divi­ sion making 22 teams in all. The winners were the “Snow Crest Riders” from Washago, north of Orillia who won the Eldon Thompson Trophy and B&W Trail Blazer Sweat Shirts. Runners up were the Pine Ridge No. 1 team from the Hensall Club who received Coors-Molson sweat shirts. Winners of the open division were the team, “Cornin' at You” from St. Marys. They won $150 and Molson Gym Bags. “A” runners up were the Ball Blasters, a combination team from Winthrop and Seaforth who won $100 and Molson Sweat Bands. “B” division winners, Honey­ comb Kids from Mitchell won $100 and Molson t-shirts. Runners up, the Flannigan's team from Seaforth received Bell Hats donat­ ed by Bell Canada. Although the weather was very hot and humid until Sunday, it cooled down a little after the rain. It was a very success­ ful tournament. Dedication held at Duffs Church At the morning service at Duffs United Church, July 14 there was a plate “Jesus and the Children” ded­ icated in memory of Tannis Gwen Smith, daughter of Terry and Vera Smith. Gloria Wilbee sang a solo. On July 21 Graeme Craig sang a solo during the service. Next Sun­ day will be the last Sunday service before Rev. Bonnie Cole Amal is on holidays for the month of August. The U.C.W. served lunch in the church basement Sunday afternoon following the funeral service for Dave Watson in Blyth. The Wat­ sons were former Walton residents. Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Wat­ son and family. Stan and Peg Achilles of Hearst were recent visitors with Roily and Teenie Achilles. Andrew Kruse, son of George and Kim Kruse of Bayfield spent a few days last week holidaying with his grandmother, Mary Humphries. Lori Armstrong Ontario Scholar at GDCI LORI ARMSTRONG Lori Armstrong, daughter of Fred and Ruth Armstrong, R.R. 2, Auburn is one of 22 Ontario Schol­ ars at Goderich District Collegiate Institute.
