Brussels soccer team wins'B" championship Brussels Mosquitoes soccer team won the "B" championship at a recent tournament in Kincardine. , Playing June 22, the team lost its first game to Kincardine by a 7-1 count but went on to beat Goderich— 4-2 to take the consolation title. July 10 the team played Listowel 2 in an outstanding of skill. Listow­ el had only two shots on net but scored on both for a 2-0 win. Sports Belgrave Squirts lose by 1 Winning team Brussels Mosquitoes took the "B" championship in a soccer tournament in Kincardine June 22. The team lost the morning game to Kincardine but won the ”B" final 4-2 over Goderich. Members of the team are: (front row, left to right) Terry Nichol, Corey Newman, Cory Campbell, Brett Fischer, Scott Clarkson, Derek Gravelstock, Jessie Hutchins, Ryan Smith, Trevor Wilson; (back) Scott Somers, Adam Carr, Conrad Wernham, Chad McCallum, Coach Gary Marlin, Clint Fischer, Jamie Thomas and Andrew Straeton. Juveniles lose to Arthur Friday night in Brussels the Arthur Merchants won their third consecutive game against the Juve­ niles by a convincing 9-3 score. Scott Johnston took the loss despite striking out 10 baiters over seven innings. Sunday afternoon Brussels over­ came a six-run first inning deficit to defeat the Moorefield Vagrants 9-8. Andrew McCutcheon took the win with Scott Johnston hitting a late- inning, two-run homer for the win­ ning run. Sunday night the Juveniles trav­ elled to Monkion and, despite scor­ ing early, gave up three runs in the third inning enroute to a 4-1 loss. An offensive highlight for the Juveniles during weekend play was infielder Greg Mulvey reaching base 10 out of 10 tries. Wednesday night, Brussels hosts Arthur for an 8 p.m. start in Wal­ ton. Friday night they travel to Gor- ric for an 8:30 game against Wrox- eler while Monday they play Moorefield at 8:45 in Drayton. Belgrave Squirts scored six runs in the final inning to make it close but still lost a 16-15 game July 9 in Belmore. Belmore had taken a lead in the first with six runs in the bottom of the inning after Belgrave scored two in the lop of the inning. Jeremy Campbell and Robbie McGee scored for Belgrave. Belgrave rebounded with six runs in the second. Kevin Campbell, Rolf, Wayne Fenton, Michael Marks, Jamie McCallum and Jere­ my Campbell all scored. Belmore replied with four runs. Belgrave could score only once in the third as David McBurney came across the plate. Belmore came back with five runs. Belgrave was blanked in the fourth and fifth innings while Bel­ more scored once in the fourth. In the sixth, Robbie McGee, David McBurney, Adam Gamiss, Michael McBurney, Kevin Camp­ bell and Rolf scored but it wasn't enough to tie the game. Belgrave scored two runs in the first on home runs by Justin Camp­ bell and Craig Marks and never looked back on their way to the big victory. In the second, Jim Wray scored for Belgrave. In the third, Justin Campbell and Craig Marks each hit their second homeruns of the game to lead an eight-run outburst. Also scoring were Devon Moffatt, Laura Meier, Heath Black, Jim Wray, Mathew Mullen and Peggy Procter. Belmore scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth but Belgrave responded with seven more runs led by the third homers of the game by Justin Campbell and Craig Marks.
