SAVE French student gets full tour of Huron County’s attractions SUN WORTHY WALLCOVERINGS Sylvain Laurent, an attractive 16- year-old from Burgundy, France has been the guest of Bev and Alex Blair of Blyth since arriving July 6 on the Lions International Exchange program. Now at the Charlie Shaw Youth Camp at Pike Lake, near Mt. For est, with the 50 other Lions exchange students visiting, Sylvain has already experienced much of Huron County with the Blair family and through the hospitality of other Blyth residents. In one week, Sylvain has attend ed a production at Blyth Festival, visited Graham Jackson's zoo, fished at Radford's pond, loured Hubbards, Howsons and Dominion Roads, played bingo, enjoyed a day at the beach, has seen the Museum, Gaol and the lighthouse, spent time on a dairy farm, and has gone for a boat ride with Dave and Fran Cook. Needless to say, last Friday was spent relaxing. Sylvain says he has enjoyed everything equally and is discover ing many differences between his native country and Canada. "There is no bingo in France," he says smiling. Also, he said that France has no big lakes and it is much hot ter here than there. "It is very different," he said. "There are straight roads in Cana da." Alex said with amusement, that Sylvain found the size of our refrigerators amazing as in France they are only the size of bar fridges. "There are many big things in Canada," said Sylvain. "He says Canadians eat and drink a lot too," Bev said, laughing, "especially Pop." Sylvain says that in France, chil dren can buy cigarettes and they only cost about $2 a pack. While you need to be 16 to get your driver's licence in Canada, in France youths can not drive until they are 18, while the legal drink ing age is 16. In France, Sylvain spends his spare time with friends and enjoys playing soccer, called French foot ball there, tennis and ping pong. Sylvain's father is a member of the Lions Club in France and it was through that association that Syl vain became part of the exchange program. He explained that youths were given the choice of visiting the U.S. or Canada, but as he was considered loo young to go to America he had only one choice.
