Blyth Rutabaga Festival ’91
Rutabaga parade a Festival highlight
One of the highlights of last year's
First Annual Blyth Rutabaga Festival was
the Saturday afternoon parade. Over 100
entries participated in the event and the 1991
Rutabaga Festival committee are expecting
the same kind of turnout for this year.
Leading the parade were bands such
as the Forest City Pipes and Drums, Brussels
Legion Pipe Band, Clinton Legion Pipe
Band and London's Mocha Temple Shrine
Oriental Band. The Shriner's Fire Brigade,
Scooter Patrol and Rat Patrol also took part.
Anything that moves and carries a
rutabaga theme is considered an entry and
there is still lime to be part of it. You can
walk your dog or ride a horse. You can
move along the parade route by float, bike,
wagon, or car.
If you don't want to enter, bring the
family and come to watch. There will be
clowns to watch and bands to hear.

Mocha Desert Rats were an
entertaining addition to the parade.
This float depicting the seven dwarfs hoeing rutabagas was one of the prize-winning entries of last year’s first annual
Rutabaga Festival parade. Over 100 entries took part in the event and organizers anticipate the same turnout for this
year.
