Auburn . 2 Couple celebrates 50th MEMBER OF THE ONTARIO CHIMNEY SWEEP ASSOCIATION AND THE CANADIAN WOOD ENERGY INSTITUTE I A golden moment Jack and Elva Armstrong, of RR2, Auburn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception in Blyth Community Centre on Saturday evening. The Armstrongs were married on June 18, 1941 at the Auburn United Church manse. Special guests at the anniversary were the couple's seven grandchildren, their four great-grandchildren and Mrs. Armstrong's sister, who lives in Vancouver. Compiled by Mrs. Mildred Lawlor. Phone 526-7589 It was a clear spring day, June 18, 1941, when Elva Carter and Jack Arrqstrong exchanged wed­ ding vows at the United Church manse in Auburn. This past Saturday, as storm clouds brewed, the couple, with the help of family and friends, celebrat­ ed their golden anniversary at Blyth Community Centre. The bride, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carter was bom in East­ end, Saskatchewan and moved with her family to Ontario in 1937. The bride and groom, who was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Armstrong, were married by Rev. Hugh Wilson. The bridal couple was attended by the late George Gould and Helen Gould of Clinton. After the ceremony the newlyweds enjoyed a honeymoon trip to Woodstock. Upon their return the Armstrongs began their married life at RR2, Auburn where Mr. Armstrong farmed. Through the years his wife tended to the house and saw to the needs of their growing family, daughter Carol (Mrs. Gerald McDowell) and son Fred. Besides farming, Mr. Armstrong was involved in community and service groups. For 19 years he was a member of the Huron County Milk Board and was a member of the East Wawanosh school board. Presently he serves as an elder of Knox United Church in Auburn. Semi-retired he helps his son with the operation of the family farm. Mrs. Armstrong is an active member of the Knox United Church Women. Special guests at the celebration in Blyth included the couple's seven grandchildren and four great­ grandchildren and Mrs. Arm­ strong's sister Clarissa, who made the trip from her home in Vancou­ ver, for the occasion. Another sister Irene Wiley of Vancouver, was I unable to attend. Other people in attendance were ■ Mrs. Armstrong's brothers Harold ■ and his wife Margaret of Goderich and Cliff and his wife Irene of - Woodstock. Craigs home from hospital Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Craig returned home after spending a few days in Clinton Hospital. William Anderson of Newmarket spent the weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson. Gary Rodgers of Glamis visited on he weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Rodgers and on Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Bill Helesic of Goderich visited there also. Paul Ross conducted the Sacrament of Holy Communion service at Knox United Church and Nancy Park was organist. Rev. Ross gave the Call to Worship and Walkerbum Club meets The Walkerburn Club met at Martha Daer’s home on Tuesday, May 28 at 2 p.m. The president Belly Archambault opened the meeting with a reading "May" and Brenda Huizinga offered prayer. The minutes of the April meeting were read and approved. Plans for the June meeting were made. Kay Lapp invited the club to her home. Brenda Huizinga and Bemice Norman will be the lunch committee and the programme con­ venor will be Ruth McClinchey and Kay Lapp. Vera Penfound won the lucky draw which was donated by Betty Archambault. The program committee then took over. Brenda Huizinga gave an interesting poem "Flowers" and conducted a flower contest. Vera Penfound and Betty Archambault tied as contest winners. Bernice Norman took members back in their memories with "Growing Older”. Kay Lapp was auctioneer for a miscellaneous and plant sale. Everyone look home a purchase. Lunch was served by Martha Daer and Kay Lapp and around the dining table a social half hour was enjoyed. June is election month and members were asked to try to attend. Prayer of Approach. The hymn, "Stand Up and Bless the Lord" was sung. Rev. Ross gave the children's story followed by the Prayer of Confession. The choral response was sung. Rev. Ross read scriptures from Romans and St. Luke. Nancy Park and Jake Middelkamp sang a duet. Rev. Ross gave the medita­ tion entitled "Who Says It's a Man's World?" The sacrament of Holy Commu­ nion took place. The hymn "Sons of God" was sung. The Commu­ nion service was read alternately, the offering was received by Larry Plaetzer and Brian Gross and, for the Sunday School, brought for­ ward by Charles Millian and Shana Dunbar. Rev. Ross pronounced the Benediction and choral response "O God Our Help in Ages Past" concluded the service.
