SSSH!!! by Margy Stewart All the boys in grades 4 - 8 tried to keep their mouths closed and not talk to the girls last Thursday. What a chore it was for some. This event was one of many events that our student council has put on this school year. Each boy wore a yam bracelet given to them at 9:00 a.m. If he answered or spoke to a girl out of class time, he gave up his bracelet to the persis tent female. The girls with the most bracelets confiscated in each grade were - grade 4, Leanne Haggitt; grade 5, April VanAmersfoort; grade 6, Margy Stewart; grade 7, Jody Button; grade 8, Marie Cronyn. The winner overall was Margy Stewart. She was named "Miss Per sonality". She received a bag of chips and a can of pop. The boys who kept their ribbons were Shawn Clark, David Craig, Jamie Black, Stevie Raymond, Chris Saunders, Dan Sauve and Jonathan Sander son. Brian McNichol was the win ner of the "Mr. Personality" contest held earlier in the winter. THIS BUGS ME by Jerry Mason and Brad Montgomery On Friday the grade 7 class enjoyed a soil presentation by Mr. Wayne Stewart. He brought in five soil samples and we had to find bugs, worms, and other things. After that we did experiments to see what kind of soil it was. Some of the bugs we found were spiders, worms, sow bugs, ants, beetles and larva. We also studied the soil and did experiments with the bugs. Mr. Stewart is the Science Co-ordinator for the Huron County Board of Education. PRE-SCHOOLERS LEARN BUS SAFETY by Margaret Ann Stewart Last Tuesday, Constable Mar shall of the O.P.P. came to teach the pre-kindergarten students a lit tle bit about bus safety to prepare for next September. The kids and their parents sat on chairs in our gymnasium to watch a slide show. Constable Marshall asked the little kids questions. When the slides were over the children and parents boarded a school bus. They fol lowed every rule. After the bus ride everyone enjoyed cookies and lemonade in the coolness in the gym. TOOTH FAIRIES ARRIVE by Tara Wilson On Monday, May 27 at 1:40 p.m. Mrs. Doherty from the Huron County Health Unit visited the grade 6 room. Mrs. Doherty showed us a film called "The Haunted Mouth". The film was about eight to 10 minutes long. After the film Mrs. Betty Doherty taught us how to floss our teeth. She had a big mould of a set of teeth that showed us the veins that feed our teeth and what a boil and gum disease looks like. For a treat, we all got a new toothbrush and dental floss.
