A lot of renovations were required. This building was used until they built a new Legion on the present site and the old building was purchased by Leonard Lamont. The Ladies Auxiliary was formed as an Auxiliary Branch to Brussels Legion on May 28th, 1946. The ladies held their first meeting in the building where The Citizen is presently located. Their first year had a membership of 48. The following are the chartered members of the Ladies Auxiliary: V. Thomas, G. Lowe, I. Wineberg, A. Doll, A. Brothers, E. Shaw, I. Woodrow, B. Elliott, I. Workman, J. Workman, K. Duncan and C. Oakley. From the Minutes The following are excerpts from the oldest existing records of the Brussels Legion minutes. January 7th, 1947 - 1st regular meeting was held In the new Legion hall with large attendance of members present. January 15th, 1947 - Caretaker and Canteen Manager hired for salary of $50 per month. January 2nd, 1948 - Special meeting held to sponsor Juvenile Hockey team. Made decision to buy all necessary equipment. April 27th, 1948 - Committee made to bring to the attention of the executive anyone in need of assistance. May 4th, 1948 - Legion and Oddfellows decide to join decoration Sunday Services. January 1949 - Grant of $2,500 given to start a Midget Hockey team. November 1949 - Motion put forth that any paid member could bring one guest Into the Canteen Only on a trial basis. December 1949 - Allowing guests proves to be unsatisfactory. Discontinued this privilege. Decided on having periodic open nights where guests would be allowed.
