Judge takes chance
Where next?
There was plenty to choose from at the garage sale held by the Londesboro United Church
on Saturday to raise money for the church's furnace fund. Bill Kolkman (foreground) doesn't
seem to know just where to turn next. The event also featured a bake sale and a silent
auction.

Judge R.G.E. Hunter fined a
R.R.l, Belgrave man $200 in
Ontario Court, Criminal Division
after taking a chance he could
straighten out his life.
Bradley J. Peel showed up in
court with a cheque for $1700 for
restitution for damage he had
caused by driving into overhead
doors at P. and K. Autobody in
Bluevale on Nov. 23, 1990. He had
pleaded guilty when he appeared
before Judge R.G.E. Hunter in Jan
uary. The court was told that at
1:15 a.m. on Nov. 23 a 1980 Olds
Cutlass had driven into the over
head door of the garage and the
driver and a passenger in the car
got out and started pounding the
door with their fists. Most of the
lower panels in the door were bro
ken.
Mr. Peel told Judge Hunter he
had been unemployed at the time
and had an alcohol problem. Since
then, he had said in January, he had
gotten a job and was off alcohol.
Judge Hunter had said he was
going to see how big a change he
had made in his life and adjourned
the case until May to give him a
chance to make restitution. When
the restitution was made, the judge
ordered only a $200 fine.

Several members of Londesboro

able afternoon Wednesday, May 22
when they were guests of Blyth
Swinging Seniors. They enjoyed
dessert and cards.
The sympathy of the community
is extended to the Gaunt family and
relatives on the passing of their
mother Olive at Maitland Manor,
Goderich in her 93rd year. She was
a former Londesboro resident for
many years.
The Church garage sale on Satur
day for the furnace fund was quite
a good success.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs.
Aaron Kuepfer on their 40lh
anniversary. An open house was
held at the Ethel Community Cen
tre on Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. William Dobson hosted the
legislation meeting of the Ethel
W.I. at her home on Tuesday
evening. Mrs. Archie Jacklin gave
her report from the Huron East Dis
trict Annual Meeting in Bluevalc.
The FWIO theme for next year is
"trees". Everyone is urged to plant
a tree this year.
Members were encouraged to
write a support letter to M.P.P. Paul
Klopp asking him to support the
WI "living will" resolution which
had been introduced in the govern
ment and was then shelved. The
roll call "are we changing our laws
too fast to suit others" received a
unanimous response that Canada is
changing to reflect others' way of
life. A visit to the Callander Nurs
ing Home in Brussels is scheduled
for June 12 at 2 p.m. The GST was
the topic of the meeting and a live
ly discussion was held with the
consensus being the GST is not a
good tax and should not have been
implemented when it was because
the rules are constantly being
changed. The GST digs deeper into
everyone's pocket from all walks of
life. Our precious trees are being
used to make paper for more paper
shuffling jobs which costs everyone
more, so continues a vicious circle.
Mrs. Cecil Raynard read a little
ditty for her smile. Members will
attend the Blyth Festival on June
25 to see Two Brothers. There are
eight extra tickets available if any
one wishes to accompany the mem
bers, please contact Margaret
McMahon at 887-9250.
Money was donated to help off
set the cost of flowers for the Com
munity Centre flower bed. Lunch
was served by the hostess and Mrs.
Archie Jacklin.
