Wawanosh students plan operetta KINDERGARTEN by Julie Elston The students in kindergarten are working on nursery rhymes. They read the books, make pictures, make or do puzzles and do other activities. This class is full of excit­ ing adventures for the students. They are also writing in journals and learning the alphabet. There are also two other special activities that they have experienced. The Part­ ners in Excellence program went well for this grade and they earned the Early World of Learning Kit. The other activity is actually a visi­ tor - Tanya Boonstoppel, the Dairy Princess. We are very glad to have her visiting our school. GRADE ONE The grade one class visited the London Regional Children's Muse­ um on Thursday. Samantha Gibson liked the bad guy "Boo, Bad Bart" in the puppet show. Paul Dawson liked the old fashioned school. Travis Hopper bought "fools' gold" at the museum, and Becky Nethery liked the Muppet poster she bought. Overall, everybody really enjoyed the trip. GRADE TWO The grade two's had a big sur­ prise when Tyler Fenton's mom brought a baby turkey, two baby ducks and a baby chicken to visit their classroom. The students really enjoyed watching and petting the animals. Next week they will be starting a new unit on Pioneers. They will be learning plenty before their trip in June. GRADE TWO-THREE In math the grade two-threes have been measuring things inside and outside their classroom as they are discussing the metric system. They have also been getting in shape for Track and Field. GRADE THREE-FOUR The grade three-fours have been doing origami. They have made snake heads and have hung them by vines above their heads in the class­ room. GRADE FOUR-FIVE The grade four-fives were rewarded with atlases and world books from the Partners in Excel­ lence Program. Brenda Deyell (stu­ dent teacher) invited Jeff Bleomberg on Thursday to visit the class. He talked about being an NHL hockey player. They really enjoyed his visit, and are glad he came. GRADE SIX The grade six class is involved in a tree project. They also tasted coconut last week. The grade six students are also looking forward to a Mexico Fiesta to end their unit on Mexico. GRADE SEVEN The grade sevens are learning lines, designing costumes, acting "John Wayne" style, and construct­ ing props. These are just some of the many activities gong on in their classroom. This hard work is all going towards their operetta "Going West" which will be pre­ sented on May 29 at 7:30 p.m. They are also looking forward to their trip to see "The Phantom of the Opera" on June 23. They have sold donuts every week to assist the cost of this trip. JANET CORBISHLEY PROVINCIAL CO-ORDINATOR OF NATIONAL ACCESS AWARENESS WEEK sponsored by World Book Inc. Through this program each class­ room was able to obtain some World Book products. Certificates and medallions were presented to all participating stu­ dents, by the principal Mr. Scott, World Book representative, Mrs. MacLennan and classroom teachers at a special assembly on Friday, May 17. Mr. Kerr's grade four-five class was presented with a set of Science Reference books for being the class to read the most books. The following students received a special award for reading the most books in their classes: Grade 8, Andrew Cull; Grade 7, Jackie Cook; Grade 6, Erin Cook; Grade 4/5, Kendra Folkard; Grade 3/4, Tim Robinson; Grade 2/3, Cindy Frieburger; Grade 1/2, Paul Walk­ er; Grade 1, Jackie Sterenberg; Grade Kindergarten, Michelle Nixon and Scott Folkard.
