Brussels " --------------------------------- People Worshipful Master Stephen Betts, drew the fifth winning ticket of Club 284‘s Early Bird Draws. Winners of the $100 prize money were Jerry and June White. Pro- ceeds from the draw go to St. John's Lodge #284's community development project. Ruth and Jim Axtmann and Ruth's mother, Eleanor Heming­ way, returned recently from a three-week tour of the British Isles. While there they visited with Mary Hemingway in Featherstone, Yorkshire, in the Isle of Wight, ancestral home of the Knights and in the Isle of Mull, home of the Lamonts and the McNeils. Auxiliary executive The Ladies Auxiliary of the Brussels Legion Branch appointed their slate of officers on Friday night. Darters place 6th at B.C. contest Bob Richardson and Eric Ross of Branch 218 Brussels have returned from an exciting dart weekend in Vemon British Columbia. Bob and Eric were representing Ontario for the Dominion dart championships in the doubles event. Completing the team from Ontario were four members from the Winston Churchill Br. 3 (team event) and one member from High­ land Creek Br. 258 (singles event). In the doubles Bob and Eric fin­ ished sixth with only two points separating them from the second place team. With combined points from the doubles, teams and sin­ gles, Ontario placed first overall with 49 points. Second was New­ foundland with 48 points and Alberta 47 points. This is the first time in 11 years that Ontario has held this title. On Friday, May 24 the Brussels Legion and Ladies Auxiliary had their installation of new elected officers. Taking office for the Legion are: Allan Nichol, Presi­ dent; Les Brewer, First Vice; Eric Ross, Second Vice; Glenn Bridge, Secretary; Service Officer, Ted Elliott; Sgt.-at-Arms, John Grobbo; and Ross Bennett, Past President. Elected executive members were Rob Burkholder, Kathy Burkhold­ er, Debbie Trollope and Murray Lowe. Elected officers for the ladies auxiliary were Jean Little, Presi­ dent; First Vice, Bonnie Brewer; Second Vice, Helen Dobson; Trea­ surer, Barb Knight; Secretary, Barb Graber and Sgt.-at-Arms, Mabel Willis. Elected executive members were Liz Sholdice, Bernice MacFarland, Doreen Rutledge and Verna Tun- ney. Members were installed by members of the Wingham Legion Branch 180. A social time fol­ lowed. Wednesday, May 29 will be euchre night at the Brussels Legion. Cards will start at 7:45 p.m. Cost is $1.50/pcrson. All are welcome. Sunday, June 9 will be Decora­ tion Sunday. Parade will form at 1:30 p.m. at the sixth line comer. Service is at 2 p.m. at the Brussels Cemetery. On Wednesday, May 15 euchre night was held at the Legion. Win­ ners are as follows. High lady was Isabel Alcock, high man, Dennis Collins; low lady, Doreen Rutledge Friendship Club meets Relatively few members of the Friendship Club gathered at the Legion on Wednesday, May 15 at 1 p.m. After lunch, consisting of hot dogs and a variety of desserts, the meeting commenced with the Presi­ dent Gerald Exel in charge. After the opening ceremony a short business period followed. Mr. Exel moved that the June meeting (June 19) be held in the Common Room at Maple Villa at 1:30 p.m. and no lunch, seconded by Sarah Stephenson. The June meeting will be the election of officers so a good repre­ sentation of members is requested. The meeting adjourned followed by cards. High lady was Mary Lowe; high man, Albert Quipp; low lady, Marguerite Sanderson; low man, Laura Fischer (playing as a man); UNO winner was Doris Hooper.
