Lance McLellan Shannon White Vincent Bauer Cody Nichol Lindsay Therrien Businesses join forces for celebration Brussels village councillors May 6, gave permission for two Brussels businesses to block off a street for a day as part of their joint five- anniversary celebrations. Alan Teeft of Brussels EMA and Tom Cronin of Radford Auto, Farm and Industrial told councillors they were appearing before council just to keep council informed about their plans. The two businesses, both of which opened in early 1986, have joined forces to produce a trade fair of suppliers to their two companies on June 27. EMA sup pliers will provide food samples and the Radford suppliers will show off the latest in automotive supplies and accessories. Both companies will erect huge tents on the parking lol behind EMA. "There's a possibility we might attract up to 5000 people," Mr. Teeft said. When one councillor wondered where people would park for such a show Mr. Teeft suggest ed "where there's free food and free hats, people find a place to park." Councillors suggested that with a large crowd attending it might be well to block off Thomas Street from Tumberry to Elizabeth. Mr. Cronin said that would be helpful because there would be outdoor entertainment and the closed street would allow more room for people to gather safely. A request was received from Canadian Agra to extend the cross ing at the Hanna Drain on North Part Lol 15, Concession 6. Council advised Mr. Nicholson to give the landowner the choice to extend, al their expense, or if they request a new engineer's report, to amend the drainage works. The same decision was reached regarding a request from John Cardiff for the Grant Drain at North Part Lot 30, Conces sion 5 for repair and crossing extension. A request to repair bro ken tile at the Grasby Drain Branch B at North Part Lol 1, Concession 6. Reeve Doug Fraser reported that he had spoken to Dale Bachert and Kirby- McCallum Drainage. Mr. Bachert is requesting a mutual agreement drain and they are ask ing that the township roads pay 1/4 of the costs. Mr. Fraser would pay another 1/4 and Mr. Bachert 1/2. The work would be done in August. They are asking Mr. Nicholson to maintain the drainage works and the township to adminis ter the costs . Council discussed the matter in length with Mr. Nicholson and Mr. Fraser declared a pecuniary interest since his land is involved with the drainage works. Council accepted the proposal of Mr. Fraser for a site meeting at Lot 24, Concession 8/9. The meeting was called for May 16 at 9:30 a.m. Councillor Bert Elliott represented council and Mr. Michie was the roads department representative. A letter was forwarded to the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority stating council feels each municipality should maintain its membership on the board in order to keep informed of the authority's activities. Council does not feel each municipality should pay a levy if its membership is taken away. Council had no objections to the application for a way side pit per mit for the Rodger Somers Pit at Lot 22, Concession 7 and the Min istry of Natural Resources is to be advised of this matter. The general accounts totalling S47.984.88 were approved for pay ment.
