Cheerio Club members
hear several readings
The May meeting of the Cheerio
Club was held on Tuesday after
noon, May 14 at the home of Beth
Knox.
Edythe opened the meeting and
welcomed everyone. Edythe gave a
reading on Mother. Beth Knox
People
Friends and neighbours of Joanne
Lyon will be glad to know she is
recovering at home after her back
surgery in London Hospital. Best
wishes for a speedy recovery are
sent to her from the community.
Bob and Audrey Thompson
attended the funeral of Bob’s broth
er Lome Thompson at Kitchener on
Wednesday. The sympathy of the
community is extended to them.
Mr. and Mrs. John Underwood
and son of Wingham visited on
Sunday with their aunt Jean Scott.
The district annual meeting of
Huron West Women's Institute will
be held at Londesboro Hall on
Monday, May 27. Registration is at
9:30 and the meeting begins at
9:45. The guest speaker is Mrs.
Hilda Morden of Rodney, president
of the London Conference.

ter. Edythe gave two other read
ings, "The Father's Hand" and "I
meant to do my work today". Beth
gave a reading on psychology.
Edythe ended with a piece on
"Work and Pleasure".
Collection and draw money were
taken up. Roll call was answered
by 11 members. There were two
visitors. The draw donated by Viet-
ta Hoggart was won by Beth Knox.
Edythe presented Mary Longman
with a gift from the Cheerio Club
as she has moved to Clinton.
Edythe had a contest. Alida had a
contest to guess and write down 16
things on a tray. Cards were played.
Lunch was served by Edythe, Ali
cia and Beth.
The Huron County Board of Edu
cation and Conestoga College are
considering joint promotional
activities in an effort to maximize
adult education programming.
The continuing partnership
between these two centres of learn
ing, is based on a number of mat
ters of mutual interest and concern.
These items have been the focus of
recent discussions with HCBE rep
resentatives: Paul Carroll, Superin
tendent of Operations; Chuck
Rowland, Superintendent of Stu
dent Services and Secondary
School Vice-Principal Ralph Ware
ham and with representatives from
Conestoga College: Ken MacKer-
acher, Vice-President, Centre for
Continuous Learning; Marilyn
Black-Lambert, Acting Director of
Continuing/Community Education;
Grant McGregor, Dean, and Acting
Chair, School of Business and Bill
Townshend, Special Assistant, Stu
dent Development and Community
Relations.
Areas being considered are: the
extent to which joint ventures
might involve other community
agencies, the use of Huron Board
facilities for the College's Continu
ous Learning activities, joint pro
motional efforts and the promotion
of the Educational Assistant pro
gram to Board Teacher Assistants.
With the consolidation of the
College's Clinton Campus into it
Stratford Campus, Conestoga is
working with HCBE to secure
alternative accommodations for its
day and evening Continuous Learn
ing courses.
lhe board has agreed to provide
space for the Clinton Campus com
puters in Central Huron Secondary
School. This arrangement will give
HCBE and Conestoga students the
opportunity to use the resources.
Space may also be provided at
other county schools for use by the
College's Continuous Learning
activities.
Mr. Rowland and Ms. Black-
Lambert will be meeting with col
leagues from the Perth Board and
the Huron-Perth Separate School
Board this spring to discuss offer-
ing the Educational Assistant 1 pro
gram.
This 159 hour College certificate
program, comprised of three
required core courses and a field
observation, can be completed in
one year. The purpose of the pro
gram is to prepare the educational
assistant to work effectively as a
team member in meeting the needs
of learners who require special edu
cation resources. Information on
this course can be obtained by con
tacting Cathy Whiteside, at 748-
3525, extension 416.
The Huron County Board of Edu
cation and Conestoga College are
pursuing the articulation process in
the interest of better serving their

Church news
Greeters al Londesboro United
Church on Sunday, May 19 were
Laura Lyon and Edythe Beacom.
Ushers were Ken Armstrong, Len
Archambault, John Hoggart and
Doug Dolmage.
The choir sang an anthem. The
sermon topic was "The Most
Important Job in the Church".
Next Sunday the guest speaker
will be Jerome Tjerkstra of Hope
International. There will be a recep
tion after the service. Huronview
Spring Tea is on Thursday, May 23
from 2 - 4 p.m.
The church will be open from 8
a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday
for donations for garage sale. If you
can help come to the church on
Thursday, May 23, 2-4 p.m. and 7
- 9 p.m. to set up for it. The silent
auction has over 25 articles to bid
on. The sale is Saturday, May 25, 9
- 12 noon. There will be homemade
pies and baking and other things for
sale.
Brussels girls
in poster
contest
Two Brussels girls drew winning
posters in F.E. Madill's Ontario
Students Against Impaired Driving
(OSAID) contest last week. The
contest was held in conjunction
with OSAID week at the school.
Laurie Blake, daughter of Gerald
and Nella, and Erica McDonald,
daughter of Paul and Jane, took
first and second place, respectively,
in the competition. Laurie also won
third for her logo entry. Both girls
are Grade 9 students at Madill.
Winning third in the poster con
test was Kelly Mclnnes, Grade 10,
of Wingham, while Grade 9 stu
dent, Shawn Daw of Wingham and
Natascha Muscheid, Grade 10, also
of Wingham were first and second
in the logo contest.
The entries are on display in the
main showcase at the school.
