W.Wawanosh seeks volunteers for birthday West Wawanosh council will seek volunteers to serve on com­ mittees for the township’s 125th birthday party in 1991. Councillors decided at their May 7 meeting to advertise in local papers for volunteers to help orga­ nize the 125th anniversary of the township's founding. An open pub­ lic meeting will be held for the event. In other business, councillors voted to have Art Clark of Maitland Engineering Services do the neces­ sary engineering for a sand/salt storage building 48 by 20 feet. Council will also seek quotes on converting street lighting in the township to more energy-efficient high pressure sodium lights. Three companies will be contacted. Clerk-treasurer Joan Armstrong was authorized to advertise for a part-time assistant. Council approved the severance application of the Boyle Estate to sever 200 acres from a 300-acre parcel. The quote of Pollard Highway Products to supply liquid calcium chloride for township roads at a cost of $238.55 per flake ton was accepted. Councillors decided to pass a res­ olution calling for each municipali­ ty in the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority to retain a representative, and the number of Huron Day Centre honours volunteer helpers for long service Volunteering, truly a "great way to grow" was the theme of the Huron Day Centre's 13th Annual Volunteer Appreciation Night held on Wednesday, April 24 with 67 people in attendance. Director, Rosemary Armstrong, welcomed everyone followed by an introduction game by Lois Fitzger­ ald, Volunteer Co-ordinator. A delicious dinner was served. Volunteers, guests and staff were entertained by Dave Latour and Michele Carter, two talented stu­ dents from Central Huron Sec­ ondary School, who presented the members of the Authority not be reduced. Reeve Cecil Cranston and coun­ cillors Rhea Hamilton-Seeger, D.Errington and R. Taylor all indi­ cated they hoped to attend the meeting of the North Huron Com­ munity Development Area at F. E. Madill Secondary School in Wing­ play "The Garden of Eden". The staff then presented a few surprises of their own! The highlight of the evening was the awards presentations, with awards going to volunteers who have donated a total of 12,700 hours of volunteer service in the past year to the Huron Day Centre, - a correction from the 3500 hours as previously printed. All volun­ teers were recognized for their vol­ unteer service up to 13 years. Those volunteers with more than 10 years of volunteer service, include: Muriel Jones and Ruth ham, June 5 at 7:30 p.m. Ms Hamilton-Seeger also plans to attend the regional conference of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs in London, June 6. Council agreed to subsidize the unsupported expenses of one child from the township attending the Wingham Day Centre.
