Each session ran for 50 minutes. After recess everyone met in the gym and shared what they had done. The Drama and Reader The atre groups each had a presentation. Reader Theatre read the "Three Billy Goats Gruff' and Drama put on a skit involving Mime. It was a very enjoyable afternoon and we would like to thank Mrs. Webster for organizing it for us. We would also like to thank Peter Smith, Colleen McNichol, Roxanne Hamm, Karen Phillips, Helen Blake, Greg Spottiswood, and Bon nie Shannon for volunteering their time and helping us at our theme day! RESPECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT In conjunction with Earth Week, and Enrichment Unit on The 3 "R's" was planned with the grade 3 and 4 classes at B.P.S. Many activi ties were enjoyed during the week. Following is an unedited version of the diary kept by two students that week. DIARY OF EARTH WEEK AT B.P.S. by Tammy Walker and Jamie Black, Grade 4 Friday, April 19,1991 Have a shower not a bath. Recy cle paper and glass. Grade four pupils each brought in a thing that was made from junk collected from around their homes. Today we also made posters with a slogan on how to care for our earth. April 22, 1991 Today is Earth Day! Today, Grade three and four had a garbage hunt around the school collecting garbage and twigs. Next we started on ABC. A - always keep lights out when not in the room. etc. Also, every morning we CANADA have an announcement to the whole school to tell about saving our earth. April 23,1991 Today we had an assignment on "how much waste". We had to put down on a piece of paper how much waste you had. It's pretty hard to throw away any garbage at all. We also watched a film on how to make new paper from old paper. April 24,1991 No tinfoil, no Saran wrap because today we want a "no waste" lunch. It's harder making a no waste lunch. We are also mak ing a book about "Trash". So far mine's coming along okay. Did you have a no-waste lunch? April 25,1991 Today Grade three made paper. They tore up old paper, soaked it in warm water. Next they put the paper in the blender with more water. After this the mixture was poured onto a screen and was allowed to drain. It was pushed across the screen and flattened and a paper towel pul on both sides of the screens and voila! paper. We made poems about Earth Day and got a book called "Kids Can." Il has puzzles, stickers and games in it. Apr# 26,1991 Why waste trees just for wrap ping paper you throw out? Grade three and four made wrapping paper today. On recycled paper we could use one of two techniques. One was to cut out a shape from styrofoam and stamp it on a stamp pad. In the other way, you could use a straw and blow paint across the paper.
