Guest pastor delivers sermon Pastor Victor Dorsch from Maple View Mennonite Church gave the message May 5 as an exchange minister. He spoke on "The Ascention in Relation to the Kingdom." He based his sermon on Acts 1: 1-14. If the ascention had not taken place Christ's mission on earth would have had no significance other than that of a great preacher. Mervin Springtime busy at Melville Spring has been a busy time at Melville Presbyterian Church in Brussels. There have been some special services and more are planned. April began with several families greeting at the door throughout the month: Brian and Elaine Armstrong and family; Sharon and Barry Bondi and family; Ross and Anna Cunningham; and Wilfred Short reed, Rick and Margaret Mclnroy. Brian and Elaine Armstrong were the helping elders for the month and David Adams the main usher. There were several highlights in April, beginning with a time and worship hosted by the Guild on April 14 where Joanne King and Jean Bewley showed their slides from their trip to Austria last fall. Rev. Charles Henderson from Exeter was welcomed to the pulpit on April 21, as Carolyn was preaching at an anniversary at one of her home churches, in Scarbor ough. A great time was had by all who participated in the "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" event, hosted by several in the congrega tion on Saturday, April 27. Hosts were 'surprised' to see which six people would show up at their home for dinner. About 60 people participated and over $500 was raised towards wheelchair access. Then, on the Sunday morning fol lowing, the church welcomed many members from the local branches of the Women's Institute. Members enjoyed a marvellous children's story from Wilma Hemingway, and other PTesbyterial ladies from the Institute also led in worship. (Leona Armstrong, Isabel Adams, Kate Wilson, Freda Pipe). Walton President Marg Mclnroy sang two appropriate solos: Bette Midler's "From a Distance" was especially moving. Both of Melville's female elders also participated in the ser vice along with minister Carolyn ‘Engagement HESCH - COBER Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hesch and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Cober are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of Marty and Tracy.
