Phone 887-9487 Area women attend special event in Varna Dow attends Mich, workshop Nearly 350 United Church Women enjoyed the April Special Event at the Stanley Township Complex, Varna on Monday evening, April 29. The theme was "Celebrating Us" in our early years by Marilyn Elgie: our teen years by Bev and Jenny Robinson; the middle years by Jeanne Udall and the upper years by Alma Langford. Betty Graber of Brussels was in charge of the pro­ gram. Those attending from Belgrave were Mrs. Mabel Wheeler, Mrs. Irene Lamont, Mrs. Laura John­ ston, Mrs. Doris Michie, Mrs. Muriel Coultes, Mrs. Ruth John­ ston, Mrs. Barbara Anderson, Mrs. Hilda Vincent and Mrs. Louise Bosman. The Bill Coultes family attended the wedding of a nephew and cousin Scott Davis to Linda Kling in Waterloo, Saturday, May 4. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Watson of Forest spent the weekend with Mrs. 14 tables at euchre Fourteen tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave, May 1. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Mel Jacklin; low lady, Mrs. Leslie Vincent; lucky table, lady, Mrs. Agnes Gaunt and Mrs. John R. Kinsmen calendar winners Belgrave Kinsmen Calendar Draw winners were: April 28, $50, David Montgomery, Wingham; April 29, $50, Brian Falconer, Bel­ grave; April 30, $50, Murray Ben­ Jean Pattison and also visited with other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Leitch of Waterdown and Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and Erin of Ildcrton spent the weekend with their parents Mrs. Laura Johnston and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby. Donald Coultes of Brandon, Manitoba visited briefly this week with his mother Mrs. Florence Coultes of Wingham and other rcl- under the leadership of Lyn Harry, performed in the Saturday evening concert. Dr. Haydn James of Lon­ don, England, directed the hymn singing on Sunday and Rev. John Roberts and Rev. Dr. Cerwyn Davies (Toronto) led the devotions, atives in the Belgrave area. Rev. and Mrs. John Roberts spent the weekend at Niagara Falls attending the Ontario Gymanfa Ganu (Welsh Hymn Singing Festi­ val). Stephen Dow, son ol Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dow was sponsored by the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario and was basically select­ ed from delegates across the province to attend a five-day work­ shop April 26 - May 1 in Lexing­ ton, Michigan. On returning home he will run a similar workshop for their own Association which will be called the Great Lakes Recreational Lead­ ership Lab. Two young ladies from the area, Margie Gordon and Jennifer Cuck- scy, participated in the piano duets section at the Walkerton Music Festival May 2. The girls competed against nine other sets and tied for second place with their rendition of the Ivory Waltz by Bill Evans. Margie and Jennifer are students of their music teacher Mrs. Margaret Kai of Wingham. Wilfred Walker and Harvey Edgar are patients in he Wingham and District Hospital.
