Cheerio Club hears
springtime poems
The March meeting of the
Cheerio Club was held at the home
of June Fothergill on Thursday.
March 21 at 2 p.m.
June welcomed everyone and
read two poems “Springtime
Again” and “March Winds”. Roll
call was answered by eight mem
bers. of the February
meeting were read. Margaret Good
gave a reading “Grumbling”. Col
lection and draw money were taken
Op. A draw donated by Estella
Adams was won by Clara Riley.
Cards were played. Lunch was
served by June Fothergill and
Margaret Good. A card was signed
for Mary Longman.
Shuffleboard winners
Shuffleboard was held at Hullett
Central School on Wednesday
evening. March 20 at 8 p.m.
Seventeen people were present.
Men’s high was Lloyd Dale and
ladies’ high. Betty Dale.
The sympathy of the community
is extended to Wilmer Giousher
and family on the passing of his
wife and mother, Norma.

THE KIDS ON THE BLOCK

Volunteer puppeteers helped
bring Joanne and Stephen’s mes
sage about child abuse to life. The
puppeteers came on March 21. It
included 20 minute skits about
Physical and sexual abuse, parti
cularly directed at grades 3, 4, and
5.
GRADE 3
The grade 3’s wrote to Leslie
Watt, author of “The Troll By The
Sea”. They were very excited when
they returned after March Break
and had received a reply from the
author.
GRADE 5/6 KITE STUDY

Grades 5/6 have finished a unit
on kites. They studied how a kite
flies and flight in general. A small
group of 5/6 students made kites
out of paper, wood and plastic and
tried them out. It was a learning
experience for them. Three of the
students, Erica Horbanuik, Katie
McGregor and Karen Trick went to
a two-day enrichment program at
Blyth Community Centre.
Greeters at Londesboro United
Church on Sunday, March 24 were
Reg and Helen Lawson. Ushers
were Fred Peel, Bryan Whyte, Ken
Penfound, and Brian Howatt.
The First Scripture was read by
Rhonda Howatt. The sermon topic
was “The Enemies of Jesus: The
Establishment.”
Holy Communion was held. Four
new members were accepted into
the church by transfer of certifi
cates: Doug and Cheryl Trewartha
and Doug and Catharine Allen.
Junior Choir practice is Satur
day. March 30 at the church at 10
a.m.
Junior Youth Group will meet at
the manse on Thursday, March 28
to watch the rock musical “Jesus
Christ Superstar”. Good Friday
service is at Knox United Church,
15 tables at
WI euchre
The last W.I. Euchre of the
season was held at the Londesboro
Hall on Friday evening, March 22
at 8 p.m.
There were 15 tables in play.
Ladies’ high was Ruth Jenkins;
ladies’ lone hands, Jean Scott;
ladies’ low, Mrs. Graydon Neal;
men’s high, Aldie Crich; men’s
lone hands, Harvey Dolmage;
men’s low, Ella Flood (playing as a
man). Several people were lucky
draw winners.
Auburn at 8 p.m. Fest is at 7:30
p.m. Sunday, April 7. Sunday,
April 14 is the annual Piano Recital
of Gail Lear at Blyth Memorial Hall
at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14 a
Convenanting (induction) service
will be held at Londesboro Church
at 8 p.m. for Rev. Paul Ross.

tell how to get fit

If anybody is looking for a new
way to get some exercise, try these
exercises recommended by the
Auburn Fitness Fun Addicts who
tried them on March 18.
The step test: You’ll need a step
that is 23-30 cm. from the step to
the floor. Take your pulse before
you start and when you are done.
Did it go up? Time yourself for a
minute going up and down the
step, have fun.
•The jump rope marathon: jump
or skip until you are tired and time
yourself.
•The nine minute marathon:
walk, run or job on a measured
track or road and see if you can do
it in nine minutes (1 did 2 km. in 12
minutes).
•Sit ups: See how many sit ups
you can do in one minute.
Members heard a guest speaker
Susan Wyatt. She was a volleyball
coach at Hullett Central School.
Susan came to speak about the
importance of warming up before
any type of exercises to loosen your
muscles. Gail Dobie was a helper at
this meeting.
