Clinton Atom goalie Bud Talbot stops a shot by this Wingham player in the first game of the second weekend of tournament action in Brussels on Saturday. Both teams played well, but Clinton edged out Wingham in the final score by 5-4. The Atom Tournament is sponsored annually by the Optimist Club. Blyth, Hensail face-off HENSALL 5 - BLYTH 2 Monday, March 11 the Hensall Atoms travelled to Blyth and evened their best of four series at one game a-piece. Hensall controlled the first period but Blyth scored the only goal with Mark Wilson, beating the Hensall goalie, assisted by Trent Richmond. The second period belonged to Blyth as they swarmed the Hensall net, but only scored once: Greg Blok’s blast from outside the circle. With Blyth up 2-0, both teams took a much deserved break. After a super effect in the first half of the game, Blyth fell asleep in the third Belgrave Tykes down Bayfield Belgrave Tykes triumphed over the visiting Bayfield Tykes by an 11-6 count in the game played March 12. Belgrave took a 4-1 lead in the first period and held it throughout the game for the win. Curling Club holds Jitney The Brussels Curling Club held its March Break Jitney on Monday, March 11. In first place with 47.75 points was the team of Brad Speiran. Donna Knight, Brett Bauer and Brian Alexander. Second place with 36.25 points went to the team of Tom Warwick, Joyce Alexander. Fran Bremner and Bob Steiss. Third with 33.75 points went to Mervyn Bauer, Sue Gowing, Evelyn Blake and Wayne Alexan­ der. In fourth place with 32 points was the team of Mike Alexander, Madelene Steiss, Jean Bewley and Kelly Bauer. Fifth place went to Bob Alexander. Marg Taylor. Ann Uhler and Steve Steiss. Sixth place went to Ernie Lewington, Donna Bauer, Bonnie Cole Arnal and Darren Bauer. In seventh place was the team of Orval Bauer, Annette Lewington. Barb Alexander and Daniel Pearson. Eighth place went to the team of Stew Steiss. Velma Locking, Brenda Linton and Rod­ ney Bauer. period and watched Hensall score five goals to win 5-2. HENSALL 4 - BLYTH 2 The following Wednesday night March 13 Blyth travelled to Hensall for the third game in the series. Hensall scored early in the game but Blyth soon tied the game 1-1 on Mark Wilson’s unassisted effort. Hensall tallied three straight goals adding to Blyth’s troubles, to take a 4-1 lead into the dressing room. Blyth came out fired up in the third period out-playing Hensall but once again they managed only one goal settling for a 4-2 loss. Jeff Cowan scored Blyth’s second goal set up by Michael Courtney. Shane Burkholder played a solid game in Craig Marks on the home team started early with three first-period goals, all unassisted. Justin Campbell scored twice with Curtis Knight assisting on the first and Chad Cook assisting on the second. In the second period Bayfield pulled close with two early goals before Chad Cook set up Craig Marks for another goal. Craig Marks scored from Chad Cook then Justin Campbell scored unassisted and Craig Marks scored another unassisted goal. Bayfield scored twice before the period ended to close the score to 9-5. Derek Marks scored from Craig Marks to open the third period scoring for Belgrave. Bayfield got WANTED! LADIES' SLO-PITCH TEAMS in surrounding area to form a new league for Spring. BLYTH 1 - HENSALL 0 The Hensall Atoms, up two games to one, returned last Sun­ day, March 17, hoping to eliminate a very stubborn Blyth team. Blyth spoiled these plans coming up with their best game this year. This game displayed a super effort by both teams with Blyth scoring the only goal. Mark “Sparky” Wil­ son’s blue-line blast, gave Blyth the only goal they needed assisted by Michael Courtney. Shane Burk­ holder picked up a shut-out for Blyth with a good defensive effort by the entire team. This series will now go to the fifth and final game in Hensall, super hockey. one goal back before Curtis Knight closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal with less than a minute left. The win was backed up by the goaltending of Cole Vincent. Saturday the team travels to Bayfield for their year-end tourna­ ment. IMAGINE! Rhonda Gibbons passed her Baby Blues Dance and April Van Amersfoort and Christina Black passed their Swing Dance. April and Christina also passed their Preliminary Figures. On Feb. 17 in Brussels, the Annual Interclub Competition took place. Rachel Arthur, Erin Bolger, Amanda Howson, and Kimberley Richmond took part in Dance and Free Skate events. All girls did a good job in each of their events. On March 6 at Clinton Test Day Ashley Howson and Courtney Sauve passed their Baby Blues Dance. In Junior Bronze Dance Rhonda Gibbons passed her Swing Dance, April Van Amersfoort and Christina Black passed their Fiesta Tango Dance. In Junior Silver Dance Kimberley Richmond and Erin Bolger passed their American Waltz and Rocker Foxtrot. In Canskate and Canskate Ad­ vance as of January, skaters pass­ ing badges in their groups were: Beginner Badge - Rachel de Boer, Robbie Archambault, Becky Nethery, Jeffery Lewis, T. J. Marks, Lindsay Ottens, Michael Ottens, Jesse Moore, Aaron Mc- Clinchey, Michelle Cook, Mark Machan. Elementary Badge - Jenny Ritch­ ie, Leanne Vincent, Jason Fear, Jeremy Hanna and Joshua Fischer. Basic Badge - Anthony de Boer, Beth Bylsma and Leanne Haggitt. Novice 1 - Vicky Black, Laura Meier, Tammy Vincent and Pauline Blok. Novice II - Elisha Courtney, Michelle McNichol, Laura Meier and Vicky Black. Novice 111 - Christine Lapp. Novice IV - Melissa Hanna and Julie Ritchie.
