Couple marks golden anniversary Family and friends gathered at the RR 3, Walton home of Jim and Erma Williamson on Sunday, March 17 to honour the couple on the occasion of their golden wedd­ ing anniversary. Rev. Ralph Moore united the bride, Erma Gray of Dublin, with her groom in a ceremony at the Reorganized Church Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Rostock on March 15, 1941. The bride’s sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Bill Drown were the bridal atten­ dants. Mr. and Mrs. Williamson recall- 4H tests pulse rates ed that while it was a beautiful day for the wedding, by that evening, in true Snowbelt fashion, a good old winter storm had moved in. “We had to get the chains out so we could get as far as Stratford,” remembers Mr. Williamson. The newlyweds made the honeymoon trip to Toronto in a 1931 Essex Coupe. “We did well to get to Toronto and back for a honeymoon and considered ourselves lucky to have enough money when we got back,” said Mr. Williamson. While in Toronto they stayed with a cousin. After the wedding trip the Williamsons returned to the Grey township family farm, where the groom, his father and his grand­ father had been born and raised. The Williamson’s son Keith is the fourth generation to work the Century farm. While Mrs. Williamson was kept busy raising the couple’s three children - they also have two daughters, Arlene of Seaforth and June of Listowel - Mr. Williamson was active in the farming commun­ ity. He was involved in the Federa­ tion of Agriculture , was a member of the Huron County Hog Produ­ cers and was a Grey tonwship fireman from 1968 to 1980 as well. Though technically retired Mr. Williamson keeps active helping his son in the daily operation of running the farm. Mrs. Williamson still keeps the homefront running smoothly and spends her leisure time quilting and embroidering. Golden day Jim and Erma Williamson of RR 3, Walton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at an Open House at their home on Sunday. The couple was married in Rostock on March 15, iy4i, ana lived tneir entire married lite on Mr. Williamson's family farm. Walton BY BARB LAMBLE On February 25, the second meeting of Walton III Health and Fitness club was held at the Boven’s home in Walton. It was decided that because of the high price, the club would not go bowling. The club learned about heart rates and did various activi­ ties, such as chair dips and leg lefts, to see if the members pulse rates matched the rates recom­ mended in the book. Ruth Schade and Ruth Axtman (the 4-H leaders) discussed with the club how personalities should affect your choice in sports activi­ ties. The meeting was closed with the 4-H pledge and a lunch of crackers and dip was served. Phone 887-6677 Social worker tells UCW about life in Nigeria The World Outreach meeting of the U.C.W. general meeting was held in the basement of Duffs Church, Wednesday evening, March 13. There was a good turn out of both units to hear the guest speaker, Valerie Millson of Sea­ forth who is a social worker. She showed a film of her experiences in Nigeria, of the people there and how they live. She experienced many difficulties in the Third World country and told of what she felt on the way and in a different country. She wore the traditional dress and was assisted by Marie McGavin and Cathy (McGavin) Malady, each modelling one she had brought home. She was intro­ duced by Gloria Love and thanked by Mary Humphries for her inter­ esting talk and pictures. The theme on the Lenton Season was chosen for the meeting with Marjorie Humphries in charge of devotions. The hymn “Take up Thy cross the Saviour said” was sung with pianist Edith Wey. Judy Emmirch read the scripture follow­ ed by a meditation on “Take up your Cross”. Marie Courts led in prayer. The offering was received and dedicated. The hymn "The head that once was crowned with thorns”, closed this part of the meeting. Dorothy Sholdice presided for the business opening with a read­ ing “A value of a member”. Minutes were read by Doreen Hackwell. The treasurer’s report was given by Leona McDonald. Invitations were read from Blyth U.C.W. to attend their spring Thankoffering March 24 at 8 p.m. and North Side United Church. Seaforth, March 25, 8 p.m. Dorothy reported on the recent official board meeting held in Bluevale. On Sunday, March 17 the U.CW. took the service with Sharon Wurm of the Safe Homes for Youth their guest speaker. Next Sunday, March 24 Communion will be observed as well as baptism. Easter Sunday times are reversed: Bluevale at 10 a.m. and Walton at 11:30 a.m. Easter lilies are to be purchased for Easter Sunday and given to shut-ins. The garage and bake sale is tentatively set for May 19 with further plans to be made. Commit­ tee reports were given. Next month executive meeting will be held April 3 at «7:30 p.m.,, unit meetings April 10 at 8 p.m. The meeting was closed with the U.C.W. Benediction. A social time over lunch was enjoyed before the girls went home before the busi­ ness. March lunch convenors were Alice Searle, Marjorie Humphries, Leona McDonald, Helen Craig and Kathleen Williamson. Florida couple visits Bill and Louise Smith visited on Saturday afternoon with her moth­ er Isabelle Shortreed. They are home from Florida for a short time on business. Murray and Olene Dennis will be guest speakers and showing pic­ tures on South America at the Walton Women's Institute on Wed­ nesday evening, March 20. Guests arc welcome along with men. The meeting is called for 8 p.m. at the hall.
