Couple marks golden anniversary
Family and friends gathered at
the RR 3, Walton home of Jim and
Erma Williamson on Sunday,
March 17 to honour the couple on
the occasion of their golden wedd
ing anniversary.
Rev. Ralph Moore united the
bride, Erma Gray of Dublin, with
her groom in a ceremony at the
Reorganized Church Jesus Christ
of Latter Day Saints in Rostock on
March 15, 1941. The bride’s sister
and brother-in-law Margaret and
Bill Drown were the bridal atten
dants.
Mr. and Mrs. Williamson recall-

ed that while it was a beautiful day
for the wedding, by that evening,
in true Snowbelt fashion, a good
old winter storm had moved in.
“We had to get the chains out so
we could get as far as Stratford,”
remembers Mr. Williamson. The
newlyweds made the honeymoon
trip to Toronto in a 1931 Essex
Coupe. “We did well to get to
Toronto and back for a honeymoon
and considered ourselves lucky to
have enough money when we got
back,” said Mr. Williamson. While
in Toronto they stayed with a
cousin.
After the wedding trip the
Williamsons returned to the Grey
township family farm, where the
groom, his father and his grand
father had been born and raised.
The Williamson’s son Keith is the
fourth generation to work the
Century farm.
While Mrs. Williamson was kept
busy raising the couple’s three
children - they also have two
daughters, Arlene of Seaforth and
June of Listowel - Mr. Williamson
was active in the farming commun
ity. He was involved in the Federa
tion of Agriculture , was a member
of the Huron County Hog Produ
cers and was a Grey tonwship
fireman from 1968 to 1980 as well.
Though technically retired Mr.
Williamson keeps active helping
his son in the daily operation of
running the farm. Mrs. Williamson
still keeps the homefront running
smoothly and spends her leisure
time quilting and embroidering.

BY BARB LAMBLE
On February 25, the second
meeting of Walton III Health and
Fitness club was held at the
Boven’s home in Walton.
It was decided that because of
the high price, the club would not
go bowling. The club learned about
heart rates and did various activi
ties, such as chair dips and leg
lefts, to see if the members pulse
rates matched the rates recom
mended in the book.
Ruth Schade and Ruth Axtman
(the 4-H leaders) discussed with
the club how personalities should
affect your choice in sports activi
ties. The meeting was closed with
the 4-H pledge and a lunch of
crackers and dip was served.
