at the 8:24 mark, assisted by Justin
Sauve. Elma-Logan bounced back
with four goals before the end of
the period to give a lead of 4-1.
Blyth started skating early in the
second and never looked back. At
the seven minute mark Jeremy Van
Amersfoort put one in assisted by
Kyle Anderson and Chris Carter.
Late in the period Jamie Black
scored on a pass by Joey Schmidt
and less than a minute later Kyle
Anderson got his second goal of the
night, this was assisted by Jeremy
Van Amersfoort. It was a tied
hockey game at the end of the
period.
Both teams played cautiously
during the third, but Blyth got the
break halfway through the period.

Blyth Tykes edge Belgrave
Fans were treated to a stimulat
ing game of hockey at the Belgrave
Arena on Feb. 26 when the Blyth
Tykes played the Belgrave Tykes.
Blyth opened the scoring in
the first period with a goal scored
by Steven Van Amersfoort and
assisted by Devin Shannon. Bel
grave soon shot ahead with three
goals scored by Craig Marks and
Curtis Knight. Matt Anderson

the score.
The action was fast and furious
with both teams scrambling to get a
goal ahead. The last three minutes
of play saw Blyth pick up one goal
scored by Derek Cook and Belgrave
scoring one by Justin Campbell to
once again tie the score.
Matt Anderson jumped on the
puck early in the second period to
score two goals, one assisted by
Cole Stewart, and put Blyth in the
lead. Belgrave’s Craig Marks fired
a shot past Blyth to end the scoring
in the second period with Blyth
leading by one.
The third period scoring started
early with a goal by Blyth’s Matt
Anderson, assisted by Derek Cook.

lows and Jamie Black. Allan Gib
bons played a good game in the net
and the Blyth boys won the game
by a score of 5-4. This gave Blyth
the lead of 1-0 in the series and due
to stormy weather these two teams
didn’t get together again until Feb.
19.
Blyth travelled to Monkton to
play game two. It was a close
checking game but Elma-Logan
won this one 3-0. Elma-Logan
scored early in the first, then Blyth
held their own and had some
chances on Elma-Logan’s net, but
their goalie kept making the saves.
There was no scoring during the
second, even though both teams
had chances. Elma-Logan scored
halfway through the third and with
4:52 left they got another one.
Again Allan Gibbons played well in
net and stopped Elma-Logan from
getting anymore goals. This tied
the series at one game each.
Blyth lost the flip and had to
travel back to Monkton on Feb. 22
only to lose by a 5-1 score.
Elma-Logan got three goals in the
first, but Blyth played well the next
two periods, along with goaltender
Allan Gibbons and held Elma-
Logan to only one goal each period
to give them a 5-0 lead.
Even though Blyth got lots of
chances, Elma-Logan’s goalie kept
making save after save until late in
the third when Kyle Anderson
scored on some passes made by
Jamie Black and Justin Sauve.
Elma-Logan won the series two
games to one and went on to play
Huron Park.
On Feb. 28 Teeswater came to
town to play an exhibition game.
Bryce Toll played a good game in
net and only let Teeswater score
one goal. The game was even until
late in the first when Jeremy Van
Amersfoort scored unassisted.
With 56 seconds left Chris Carter
scored on a pass from Allan
Gibbons. Blyth scored only one
goal in the second, this one was
Jeremy Van Amersfoort’s second
one of the night assisted again by
Allan Gibbons.
In the third Blyth took over the
play and scored six straight goals.
Jonathan Kochis got one, early in
the third, unassisted. Kyle Ander
son got the next one assisted by
Jamie Black. Chris Carter scored
on a break-away on a long pass

got the next one assisted by Justin
Sauve. Twenty-two seconds later
Jeremy Van Amersfoort put one in
on a pass from Chris Carter, then
Kyle Anderson popped one in,
assisted by Jamie Black.
