Blyth Novice Reps lose playoff to Elma-Logan Blyth Novice Reps started their playoff series on Feb. 14, against Elma-Logan with a win. Blyth’s Kyle Anderson opened the scoring at the 8:24 mark, assisted by Justin Sauve. Elma-Logan bounced back with four goals before the end of the period to give a lead of 4-1. Blyth started skating early in the second and never looked back. At the seven minute mark Jeremy Van Amersfoort put one in assisted by Kyle Anderson and Chris Carter. Late in the period Jamie Black scored on a pass by Joey Schmidt and less than a minute later Kyle Anderson got his second goal of the night, this was assisted by Jeremy Van Amersfoort. It was a tied hockey game at the end of the period. Both teams played cautiously during the third, but Blyth got the break halfway through the period. Bryce Toll scored the game winner with assists going to Jeremy Sal- Blyth Tykes edge Belgrave Fans were treated to a stimulat­ ing game of hockey at the Belgrave Arena on Feb. 26 when the Blyth Tykes played the Belgrave Tykes. Blyth opened the scoring in the first period with a goal scored by Steven Van Amersfoort and assisted by Devin Shannon. Bel­ grave soon shot ahead with three goals scored by Craig Marks and Curtis Knight. Matt Anderson scored two unassisted goals to tie the score. The action was fast and furious with both teams scrambling to get a goal ahead. The last three minutes of play saw Blyth pick up one goal scored by Derek Cook and Belgrave scoring one by Justin Campbell to once again tie the score. Matt Anderson jumped on the puck early in the second period to score two goals, one assisted by Cole Stewart, and put Blyth in the lead. Belgrave’s Craig Marks fired a shot past Blyth to end the scoring in the second period with Blyth leading by one. The third period scoring started early with a goal by Blyth’s Matt Anderson, assisted by Derek Cook. Belgrave’s Justin Campbell rang up his second goal of the night to end the scoring for this game. Final score was Blyth 7, Belgrave 6. Ryan Lee’s goaltending for Blyth can only be described as “awe­ some” and was matched by Bel­ grave’s goalie Cole Vincent. Members of the Blyth Team are Ryan Lee, Nick Courtney, Anthony deBoer, Matt Anderson, Cole Ste­ wart, Kirk Stewart, Jeff Carter, Derek Cook, Michael Bernard, Devin Shannon and Stephen Van Amersfoort. Belgrave team members are Cole Vincent, Craig Marks, Paul Walk­ er, Curtis Knight, Justin Campbell, Derek Marks, Chad Cook, Kenny McCrackin, Garrett Knight, T.J. Marks, and Devon Moffatt. Next game scheduled for Blyth is in Bayfield March 6 at 6 p.m. lows and Jamie Black. Allan Gib­ bons played a good game in the net and the Blyth boys won the game by a score of 5-4. This gave Blyth the lead of 1-0 in the series and due to stormy weather these two teams didn’t get together again until Feb. 19. Blyth travelled to Monkton to play game two. It was a close­ checking game but Elma-Logan won this one 3-0. Elma-Logan scored early in the first, then Blyth held their own and had some chances on Elma-Logan’s net, but their goalie kept making the saves. There was no scoring during the second, even though both teams had chances. Elma-Logan scored halfway through the third and with 4:52 left they got another one. Again Allan Gibbons played well in net and stopped Elma-Logan from getting anymore goals. This tied the series at one game each. Blyth lost the flip and had to travel back to Monkton on Feb. 22 only to lose by a 5-1 score. Elma-Logan got three goals in the first, but Blyth played well the next two periods, along with goaltender Allan Gibbons and held Elma- Logan to only one goal each period to give them a 5-0 lead. Even though Blyth got lots of chances, Elma-Logan’s goalie kept making save after save until late in the third when Kyle Anderson scored on some passes made by Jamie Black and Justin Sauve. Elma-Logan won the series two games to one and went on to play Huron Park. On Feb. 28 Teeswater came to town to play an exhibition game. Bryce Toll played a good game in net and only let Teeswater score one goal. The game was even until late in the first when Jeremy Van Amersfoort scored unassisted. With 56 seconds left Chris Carter scored on a pass from Allan Gibbons. Blyth scored only one goal in the second, this one was Jeremy Van Amersfoort’s second one of the night assisted again by Allan Gibbons. In the third Blyth took over the play and scored six straight goals. Jonathan Kochis got one, early in the third, unassisted. Kyle Ander­ son got the next one assisted by Jamie Black. Chris Carter scored on a break-away on a long pass from Joey Schmidt. Jamie Black got the next one assisted by Justin Sauve. Twenty-two seconds later Jeremy Van Amersfoort put one in on a pass from Chris Carter, then Kyle Anderson popped one in, assisted by Jamie Black. Teeswater got their only goal with one second left on the clock.
