BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Pee Wees played two games last week as they tied Milverton 3-3 in an exhibition encounter and lost the opening game of their group playoff series to Stephen Township 3-2 in over time. Blyth hosted Milverton on Mon day, February 25 and tied the chippy, undisciplined game 3-3. Brad Anderson and Jason Rut ledge set up Christopher Howson for the game’s opening goal two minutes into the contest but Mil verton scored two goals 30 seconds apart late in the period for a 2-1 lead. Blyth returned the favour with two goals 40 seconds apart early in period two to again take the lead. Christopher Howson scored his second goal of the game to tie the score with an assist to Henry Bos and then Brad Anderson poked in a goalmouth pass after being set up by Jason Rutledge and Henry Bos. Milverton retaliated with the only third period goal as the game ended in a 3-3 tie. The Pee Wees opened their best two out of three group playoff series against Stephen Township in Huron Park on Saturday, March 2 where they lost a heart breaker 3-2 in overtime. After Stephen Township scored the only first period goal, Blyth responded with two quick early second period goals for a 2-1 lead. Ryan Chamney poked in a loose puck for a power play goal after Brian McNichol set up Peter Craig’s point shot. Thirty-one seconds later Brian McNichol scored on a break-away as he deked the goalie to the ice and slipped the puck between his legs. Stephen Township scored late in the second period and the teams skated through a scoreless third period. This set up a full 10 minute overtime period and the hosts scored the only goal on a screened shot from the point three minutes into the extra session. Blyth came close to tying the game once again in the dying seconds as they did everything but score but Stephen Township re corded this 3-2 overtime victory.
