The money received from this service will be used to support the ongoing work of the Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada and mission projects in Canada and around the world. Hymns sung during the service were: “In Christ there is no East or West” and “The Servant Song”. A social time followed when muffins, jame and cheese, fruit tree, coffee and tea were served. January’s energy consumption increases Provincial energy consumption increased to 13.65 million mega- watt-hours in January, a 1.6 per cent increase over the January 1990 total. The 20-minute peak for the month -- and the winter — reached 23,199 megawatts on January 21. Although this represented a 6.6 per cent increase over the same month last year, the 1990 figure was influenced by unusually mild wea­ ther. Comparison with the January 1989 peak shows only a 0.5 per cent increase. The Ministry of Natural Re­ sources will spend $565,200 on seven public works projects in the Parkhill, Grand Bend and Goderich areas this spring, Huron MPP Paul Klopp announced on behalf of Natural Resources Minister Bud Wildman. The projects are being under­ taken to enhance local forests and watersheds, and to maintain and repair public structures and facili­ ties. “This commitment is part of the second phase of the province’s $700-million anti-recession pack­ age, in which priority is being given to those communities experi­ encing economic hardship,” Mr. Wildman said. The allocation includes: •$200,000 to provide 214 person weeks of employment for renova­ tions to comfort stations at Pinery Provincial Park to make them accessible to disabled persons. •$185,000 to provide 150 person weeks of employment for renova­ tions and improvements at MNR’s Wingham District office. •$61,200 to provide 80 person weeks of employment, in partner­ ship with the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority, for streambank erosion control. •$60,000 to provide 57 person weeks of employment for renova­ tions to three comfort stations at Point Farms Provincial Park to make them accessible to disabled persons. •$23,200 to provide 48 person weeks of employment, in partner­ ship with the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, for prun­ ing and thinning forests in the Maple Keys, Naftels Creek and Galbraith conservation areas. •$21,300 to provide 28 person weeks of employment, in partner­ ship with the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Autohrity, for con­ struction of ice control and human safety barriers at the Parkhill Dam and Reservoir. •$14,500 to provide 25 person weeks of employment, in partner­ ship with the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, for a study on the feasibility of restoring wetlands.
